Measurement of the absolute branching fraction of inclusive semielectronic $D_s^+$ decays

We measure the inclusive semielectronic decay branching fraction of the $D_s^+$ meson. A double-tag technique is applied to $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected by the BESIII experiment at the BEPCII collider, operating in the center-of-mass energy range $4.178 - 4.230$ GeV. We select positrons from $D_s^+\rightarrow Xe^{+}\nu_e$ with momenta greater than 200 MeV/$c$, and determine the laboratory momentum spectrum, accounting for the effects of detector efficiency and resolution. The total positron yield and semielectronic branching fraction are determined by extrapolating this spectrum below the momentum cutoff. Observation of Orbitally Excited Bs Mesons

We report the first observation of two narrow resonances consistent with states of orbitally excited (L=1) B_s mesons using 1 fb^{-1} of ppbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We use two-body decays into K^- and B^+ mesons reconstructed as B^+ \to J/\psi K^+, J/\psi \to \mu^+ \mu^- or B^+ \to \bar{D}^0 \pi^+, \bar{D}^0 \to K^+ \pi^-. We deduce the masses of the two states to be m(B_{s1}) = 5829.4 +- 0.7 MeV/c^2 and m(B_{s2}^*) = 5839.7 +- 0.7 MeV/c^2.

Nuclear PDFs from the LHeC perspective

We study the prospects for constraining the nuclear parton distribution functions by small-x deep inelastic scattering. Performing a global fit of nuclear parton distribution functions including a sample of pseudodata representing expected measurements at the planned LHeC collider, we demonstrate that the accuracy of the present nuclear parton distributions could be be improved substantially. We also discuss the impact of flavour-tagged data.

Nuclear gluons at RHIC in a multi-observable approach

We explore the possibility of measuring nuclear gluon distributions at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) with $\sqrt{s}=200 \, {\rm GeV}$ proton-nucleus collisions. In addition to measurements at central rapidity, we consider also observables at forward rapidity, consistent with proposed upgrades to the experimental capabilities of STAR and sPHENIX. The processes we consider consist of Drell-Yan dilepton, dijet, and direct photon-jet production. The Drell-Yan process is found to be an efficient probe of gluons at small momentum fractions. Ballistic protons in incoherent exclusive vector meson production as a measure of rare parton fluctuations at an Electron-Ion Collider

We argue that the proton multiplicities measured in Roman pot detectors at an electron ion collider can be used to determine centrality classes in incoherent diffractive scattering. Incoherent diffraction probes the fluctuations in the interaction strengths of multi-parton Fock states in the nuclear wavefunctions. In particular, the saturation scale that characterizes this multi-parton dynamics is significantly larger in central events relative to minimum bias events. As an application, we study the centrality dependence of incoherent diffractive vector meson production. An analysis of the impact of LHC Run I proton–lead data on nuclear parton densities

We report on an analysis of the impact of available experimental data on hard processes in proton-lead collisions during Run I at the Large Hadron Collider on nuclear modifications of parton distribution functions. Our analysis is restricted to the EPS09 and DSSZ global fits. The measurements that we consider comprise production of massive gauge bosons, jets, charged hadrons and pions. This is the first time a study of nuclear PDFs includes this number of different observables. Scaling properties of inclusive W $$^\pm $$ ± production at hadron colliders

We consider the hadroproduction of W gauge bosons in their leptonic decay mode. Starting from the leading-order expressions, we show that by defining a suitable scaling variable the centre-of-mass dependence of the cross sections at the LHC energies can be essentially described by a simple power law. The scaling exponent is directly linked to the small-$x$ behaviour of parton distribution functions (PDF) which, at the high virtualities involved in W production, is largely dictated by QCD evolution equations. Net-charge fluctuations in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[sNN]=2.76TeV.

We report the first measurement of the net-charge fluctuations in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV, measured with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The dynamical fluctuations per unit entropy are observed to decrease when going from peripheral to central collisions. An additional reduction in the amount of fluctuations is seen in comparison to the results from lower energies. We examine the dependence of fluctuations on the pseudo-rapidity interval, which may account for the dilution of fluctuations during the evolution of the system. We find that the ALICE data points are between the theoretically predicted values for a hadron gas and a Quark-Gluon Plasma.…

Inclusive and diffractive dijet photoproduction in UPCs at the LHC in NLO QCD

We present a next-to-leading order QCD calculation of inclusive dijet photoproduction in ultraperipheral Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC and show that the results agree very well with various kinematic distributions measured by the ATLAS collaboration. The effect of including these data in nCTEQ or EPPS16 nuclear parton density functions (nPDFs) is then studied using the Bayesian reweighting technique. For an assumed total error of 5\% on the final data, its inclusion would lead to a significant reduction of the nPDF uncertainties of up to a factor of two at small values of the parton momentum fraction. Theory overview of Heavy Ion collisions

This presentation discusses some recently active topics in the theoretical interpretation of high energy heavy ion collisions at the LHC and at RHIC. We argue that the standard paradigm for understanding the spacetime evolution of the bulk of the matter produced in the collision is provided by viscous relativistic hydrodynamics, which can be used to systematically extract properties of the QCD medium from experimental results. The initial conditions of this hydrodynamical evolution are increasingly well understood in terms of gluon saturation, and can be quantified using Classical Yang-Mills fields and QCD effective kinetic theory.
