Goodness-of-fit tests for parametric excess hazard rate models with covariates

In this paper we propose a general methodology for testing the null hypothesis that an excess hazard rate model, with or without covariates, belongs to a parametric family. Estimating the excess hazard rate function parametrically through the maximum likelihood method and non-parametrically (or semi-parametrically) we build a discrepancy process which is shown to be asymptotically Gaussian under the null hypothesis. Based on this result we are able to build some statistical tests in order to decide wether or not the null hypothesis is acceptable. Background Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a proglucagon-derived peptide expressed in the enteroendocrine-L cells of small and large intestine and released in response to meal ingestion. Glucagon-like peptide-1 exerts inhibitory effects on gastrointestinal motility through vagal afferents and central nervous mechanisms; however, no data is available about a direct influence on the gastrointestinal wall. La cavidad oral es lugar de asiento de tumores metastásicos, sobre todo con origen en mama y pulmón. La mayoría de los casos afectan por este orden a los huesos mandibular y maxilar, aunque en ocasiones se desarrollan sobre las partes blandas intraorales. Presentamos el caso de un paciente de 62 años diagnosticado de adenocarcinoma de colon sigmoide con metástasis ganglionares y hepáticas, que 6 meses después presenta una lesión vegetante en la encía, interpretada inicialmente como neoplasia primaria de encía, que tras ser biopsiada fue diagnosticada como adenocarcinoma intestinal metastásico. Retrospektīvs pētījums par dzīvildzi resnās zarnas vēža II stadijā, atkarībā no ārstēšanas stratēģijas

Ievads: Adjuvanta ķīmijterapija pacientiem ar diagnosticētu II (UICC) stadijas resnās zarnas vēzi ir apsverama. Pacientu dalījums augsta un zema riska grupās, palīdz izlemt, vai pēc ķirurģiskas ārstēšanas ir indicēta ķīmijterapija, lai gan dzīvildzes ieguvumi nav ne plaši pētīti, nedz arī pierādīti. Tāpēc, autora mērķis šajā pētījumā bija salīdzināt piecu gadu dzīvildzi UICC II stadijas resnās zarnas vēža pacientiem, kuri saņēma adjuvantu ķīmijterapiju, un pacientiem, kuri ķīmijterapiju nesaņēma. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients have reduced circulating hemopoietic progenitors. We hypothesized that severity of COPD parallels the decrease in progenitors and that the reduction in body mass index (BMI) could be associated with more severe bone marrow dysfunction. We studied 39 patients with moderate to very severe COPD (18 with low-BMI and 21 with normal-BMI) and 12 controls. Disease severity was associated to a greater reduction in circulating progenitors. Proangiogenetic and inflammatory markers correlated with disease severity parameters.
