Congenital dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans: 30 years of follow-up

Summary Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare fibrohistiocytic tumor that commonly appears in adult patients. Few cases of DFSP in childhood have been reported. We describe a case of congenital DFSP that had been incompletely excised in childhood, and again at 28 years of age. The 33-year-old woman presented with a recurrence. When comparing the histologic features of the previous specimens excised in 1970 and 30 years later, the similar typical storiform pattern of fibromatous cells was found. AbstractA method of preoperative intraluminal occlusion of the renal artery in cases of kidney tumors using a 5F Swan-Ganz balloon catheter is presented. The procedure was used in 26 tumor nephrectomies without complications and resulted in marked facilitation of the operation in 70 per cent of the cases.

Peritoneal sarcomatosis 5 years after laparoscopic morcellation of uterine leiomyoma.

In 2011, a 40-year-old woman underwent laparoscopic myomectomy with intraabdominal morcellation. Histology report showed leiomyoma without atypia, necrosis, or mitosis. In 2016, she complained of left lower quadrant pain; ultrasound examination revealed a left hypogastric mass in the site of trocar placement. Percutaneous biopsy results showed a low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LGESS). At laparoscopy, we observed: multiple nodules on uterine serosa, left annex, vesical peritoneum (Figure 1), Douglas pouch (Supplementary Video1), previous left pelvic trocar site (Figure 2), greater omentum (Figure 3), and right/left diaphragm.
Combined therapy with acyclovir and adenosine arabinoside in herpes simplex encephalitis.

We report a case of herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE) with initial coma and severe left-sided hemiparesis in which combined treatment with adenine arabinoside and acyclovir was followed by complete recovery. This favorable result is discussed in view of the literature of HSE treatment including experimental studies on antiviral activity of both drugs. Combined treatment may be useful in severe cases of HSE.
