Paternity Testing Commission of the International Society of Forensic Genetics: recommendations on genetic investigations in paternity cases

2003

The International Society for Forensic Genetics (ISFG) has established a Paternity Testing Commission (PTC) with the purpose of formulating international recommendations concerning genetic investigations in paternity testing. The PTC recommends that paternity testing be performed in accordance with the ISO 17025 standards. The ISO 17025 standards are general standards for testing laboratories and the PTC offers explanations and recommendations concerning selected areas of special importance to paternity testing. # 2002 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. Constraining heavy colored resonances from top-antitop quark events

2009

Recent measurements of the top quark charge asymmetry at Tevatron disfavor the existence of flavor universal axigluons and colorons at 2 sigma. In this letter, we explore the possibility of reconciling the data with these models and use the charge asymmetry and the invariant mass distribution of top-antitop quark pair events to constrain the mass and couplings of massive color-octet gauge bosons decaying to top quarks.

Towards commissioning the new IGISOL-4 facility

2013

Abstract The Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line facility at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyvaskyla is currently being re-commissioned as IGISOL-4 in a new experimental hall. Access to intense beams of protons and deuterons from a new MCC30/15 cyclotron, with continued possibility to deliver heavy-ion beams from the K = 130 MeV cyclotron, offers extensive opportunities for long periods of fundamental experimental research, developments and applications. A new layout of beam lines with a considerable increase in floor space offers new modes of operation at the facility, as well as a possibility to incorporate more complex detector setups. We present a general overview of I…

‘Back Door Sentencing’ in Italy: Common Reasons and Main Consequences for the Recall of Prisoners

2012

Italian law only provides the general conditions for the institution of recall. It follows that significant discretionary powers are enjoyed by the surveillance judges (and in particular by the Surveillance Tribunal) who evaluate on a case-by-case basis whether the commission of another offence or the infringement of parole conditions demonstrate the offenders' negative attitude to reintegrate into society. However, especially with reference to the commission of serious crimes, the judges' discretionary assessment can result in a restrictive application of the law on recall with the consequence that parolees are returned to prison even when they commit minor violations. The Italian peniten…

When Economics Faces the Economy: John Bates Clark and the 1914 Antitrust Legislation

2013

The aim of this paper is to analyze John Bates Clark's influence in the passing of the Clayton and Federal Trade Commission Acts of 1914. It is argued that Clark was important to the passage of these acts in two ways. First, he exercised an indirect influence by discussing in academic journals and books problems concerning trusts, combinations, and the measures necessary to preserve the working of competitive markets. At least as importantly, Clark took an active role in the reform movement, both contributing to draft proposals for the amendment of existing antitrust legislation and providing help and advice during the Congressional debates that led to the passage of the FTC and Clayton Act…

Brevi note su modelli di eterointegrazione penale e normativa UE in materia agroalimentare: tecniche di rinvio e "linguaggi" europei

2018

Saint Benedict staring at us: Clients as the third party in Modern Art. A theoretical model and a case study in Renaissance Venice

2014

This paper aims at …

Exploring the catalytic performance of a series of bimetallic MIL-100(Fe, Ni) MOFs

2019

[EN] A series of mixed-metal Fe-III/Ni-II metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) of the MIL-100 type containing different metal ratios have been synthesized de novo, following an approach that requires tuning of the Fe-III/Ni-II reactivity. The resulting heterometallic MIL-100(Fe, Ni) materials maintain thermal, chemical and structural stability with respect to the parent MIL-100(Fe) MOF as can be deduced from various techniques. The nature and the oxidation state of the accessible metal cations have been evaluated by in situ infrared spectroscopy and extended X-ray absorption fine structure measurements. The obtained mixed-metal MOFs and the parent material have been evaluated as heterogeneous ca…

Commissioning and periodic tests of the Esteya® electronic brachytherapy system

2015

A new electronic brachytherapy unit from Elekta, called Esteya(®), has recently been introduced to the market. As a part of the standards in radiation oncology, an acceptance testing and commissioning must be performed prior to treatment of the first patient. In addition, a quality assurance program should be implemented. A complete commissioning and periodic testing of the Esteya(®) device using the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), Groupe Europeen de Curietherapie and the European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology (GEC-ESTRO) guidelines for linacs and brachytherapy units as well as our personal experience is described in this paper. In addition to the methodology, r…

Diritto di sciopero e servizi pubblici essenziali

2015

The right to strike became a constitutional right in Italy only in 1948, when the Italian Constitution was approved; however it was necessary to wait more than forty years to put this right into effect. Indeed, only in 1990 was Law no. 146, regarding the public services right to strike, approved, and subsequently reformed ten years later, with Law no. 83. The Italian constitutional system the right includes the right to strike as one of many such rights, and it, therefore, has to be balanced with other individual rights, such as the right to free movement or the right access health care. A special body has the task of balancing the right to strike with other constitutional rights, that is t…
