Emozioni e relazione educativa nella scuola secondaria. Saggi sulle competenze degli insegnanti

2021

Teacher education has long been at the heart of pedagogical research. However, especially if we consider the recent Italian pedagogical research, we observe that most of the attention has been devoted to disciplinary and didactic skills, which are a necessary but not sufficient condition for the acquisition of an adequate professional profile. Especially for secondary school this gap is evident: while the training paths of educators, primary school and kindergarten teachers include a specific and broad pedagogical attention to the care of relationships and therefore to emotional competence, this is not the case in the current training paths of secondary school teachers nor in specialization…

Developing social competence and other generic skills in teacher education : applying the model of integrative pedagogy

2016

The purpose of the study was to examine how social competence and other generic skills can be developed in teacher education using a pedagogical model called Integrative Pedagogy. This model is based on the idea of integrating the four basic components of expertise: Theoretical knowledge, practical knowledge, self-regulative knowledge, and sociocultural knowledge. The subjects of the study were 95 student-teachers. The data were collected with questionnaires. In addition to social skills, the student-teachers reported learning of domain-specific skills, generic academic skills, skills for acting creatively in different situations and development of independence. We conclude that the model o…

Teachers’ beliefs about gamification and competencies development: A concept mapping approach

2020

Despite an increasing academic attention towards both gamification and competencies-based education, little is known about Higher Education teachers’ beliefs regarding the use of gamification to develop students’ competencies. To fill this research gap, concept mapping was used to cluster teachers’ beliefs in 4 dimensions regarding the use of gamification to develop students’ competencies. Our findings suggest that teachers believe that gamification encourages team working and oral communication skills. Moreover, critical thinking and social skills development were also found as some of the benefits that teachers believe the use of gamification can provide to the development of students’ co…

LAS COMPETENCIAS DEL PROFESORADO EN TIC: ESTRUCTURA BÁSICA (THE COMPETENCIES OF TEACHERS IN ICT: BASIC STRUCTURE)

2013

The ICT competences of teachers are a key variable for ICT integration in school. This paper presents a framework of indicators of competence in relation to two dimensions from a MIMIC model: the first one concerns technological competences and the second one has to do with pedagogical competences. The model includes the definition of a specific relationship between these dimensions and also the effects of a set of relevant factors: personal (gender, age and frequency of computer use) and contextual (type of educational institution, educational stage and access to computer classroom). The information was collected through a questionnaire answered by a sample of 868 teachers of elementary an…

Constructing digital portfolios: teachers evolving capabilities in the use of information and communications technology

2001

Abstract The article describes a collaborative action research project, which encouraged teachers to participate in displaying and developing the pedagogical practices of early childhood institutions through networking and digital web portfolios. Special emphasis is placed on examining the progress of teachers ICT capabilities during the first two cycles of action research. The study is based on the ecological approach to virtual learning environments. In the ecological approach, the description of virtual communities is extended to include features of the overall environment: technical devices, programs, materials, tools for communication and planning, different social and emotional proces…

Women in technology-oriented fields

2015

This study focuses on investigating the main elements that have an effect on women’s decisions to enter a career in technology-oriented fields, and more specifically, to discover whether studying crafts, especially technical work, during basic education affects their decisions in this context. The study was carried out using a semi-structured questionnaire, and the data consist of the responses from 12 female technology education teachers and 12 female engineering students. A qualitative theory oriented content analysis was carried out through identifying, coding, analysing and reporting the patterns within the data. The findings revealed that the most influential career anchor identified b…

Processes of Reflection in the Teaching and Learning Research Lab: Effects of Reflecting on Classroom Actions

2021

The ability to reflect on teaching is crucially important for the professionalization of trainee teachers. The fostering of reflection processes – by means of the systematic analysis of one’s own and others’ teaching from subject-specific, methodological, and educational science perspectives – plays a central role in a continuing and consecutive two-semester teacher training seminar concept at the University of Mainz. This paper explores the different effects of reflection on teaching on the basis of a quasi-experimental pre-post test design. Additionally, it shows how systematic reflection on teaching affects the students’ subjective experience of competence as well as the extent the semin…
