Impurity analyses of silicon wafers from different manufacturing routes and their impact on LID of finished solar cells
2013
Summarizes the measurements of impurity concentrations in directionally solidified silicon ingots from different feedstocks. The substitutional Carbon and interstitial Oxygen are measured on as-sawn wafers using FTIR. Active iron concentration is mapped on a-Si:H passivated wafers. It is observed that these impurities present in Elkem Solar Grade Silicon (ESS™) concentrations are comparable to the standard polysilicon which are in the acceptable ranges for silicon for solar industry. The measured LID of the finished solar cells is also comparable.
Heavy metal sorption in biosorbents – Using spent grain from the brewing industry
2019
The sorption properties of brewer's spent grain (BSG) were assessed in terms of its usefulness in removing heavy metals from solutions. The specific objectives of the investigation involved studying sorption equilibrium and kinetics, assessing the influence of other cations on sorption efficiency, and examining the possibility of bed regeneration. The studies were carried out in a static system, with a constant ratio of solution volume to biosorbent mass, and using a flow through system. The affinity of metal cations to BSG functional groups was established and increased in the series: Mn2þzZn2þ < Ni2þ < Cd2þ < Cu2þ < Pb2þ. The BSG's sorption capacities (mmol g1), determined using the Lang…
Soil degradation and its impact on desertification: A research design for Mediterranean environments
1988
Summary Much is said but little is known of the processes and linkages of soil degradation with desertification. With particular emphasis on South-East Spain, a research design is proposed to characterize the processes, their dynamics and effect on productivity. Through detailed monitoring of plot experiments at three slope positions, changes in soil physical and chemical parameters and analyses of runoff and eroded sediments will be related to induced destruction of the vegetation. Knowing the cause and process will lead to the identification of management techniques that may protect vulnerable Mediterranean environments.

Cordage, basketry and containers at the Pleistocene-Holocene boundary in southwest Europe. Evidence from Coves de Santa Maira (Valencian region, Spai…
2019
In this study we present evidence of braided plant fibres and basketry imprints on clay recovered from Coves de Santa Maira, a Palaeolithic-Mesolithic cave site located in the Mediterranean region of Spain. The anatomical features of these organic fibre remains were identified in the archaeological material and compared with modern Stipa tenacissima (esparto grass). Based on direct dating, the fragments of esparto cord from our site are the oldest worked plant fibres in Europe. Sixty fragments of fired clay are described. The clay impressions have allowed us to discuss the making of baskets and containers. According to their attributes and their functional interpretation, we have grouped th…
Comparative effects of carrier proteins on vaccine-induced immune response
2011
The efficacy of vaccines against major encapsulated bacterial pathogens -Neisseria meningitidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) - has been significantly enhanced by conjugating the respective polysaccharides with different carrier proteins: diphtheria toxoid; non-toxic cross-reactive material of diphtheria toxin(197), tetanus toxoid, N. meningitidis outer membrane protein, and non-typeable H. influenzae-derived protein D. Hib, meningococcal, and pneumococcal conjugate vaccines have shown good safety and immunogenicity profiles regardless of the carrier protein used, although data are conflicting as to which carrier protein is the most immunogenic. Coadmini…
A post-synthetic approach triggers selective and reversible sulphur dioxide adsorption on a metal-organic framework.
2018
We report the application of a post-synthetic solid-state cation-exchange process to afford a novel 3D MOF with hydrated barium cations hosted at pores able to trigger selective and reversible SO2 adsorption. Computational modelling supports the full reversibility of the adsorption process on the basis of weak supramolecular interactions between SO2 and coordinated water molecules.
Impact of Rocky Desertification Control on Soil Bacterial Community in Karst Graben Basin, Southwestern China
2021
Microorganisms play critical roles in belowground ecosystems, and karst rocky desertification (KRD) control affects edaphic properties and vegetation coverage. However, the relationship between KRD control and soil bacterial communities remains unclear. 16S rRNA gene next-generation sequencing was used to investigate soil bacterial community structure, composition, diversity, and co-occurrence network from five ecological types in KRD control area. Moreover, soil physical-chemical properties and soil stoichiometry characteristics of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus were analyzed. Soil N and P co-limitation decreased in the contribution of the promotion of KRD control on edaphic properties. T…
Immunogenicity, reactogenicity, and immune memory after primary vaccination with a novel Haemophilus influenzae-Neisseria meningitidis serogroup C co…
2007
ABSTRACT We evaluated two formulations of a new combined Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)-meningococcal serogroup C (MenC)-tetanus toxoid (TT) conjugated vaccine and two formulations of a new MenC-TT vaccine (trials 711202/001 and 711202/008; clinical trial register numbers NCT00135486 and NCT00135564 [ www.ClinicalTrials.gov ]). A total of 520 healthy infants were randomized to receive primary vaccination (at 2, 3, and 4 months) with either MenC-TT plus diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis (DTPa)-hepatitis B virus (HBV)-inactivated poliovirus (IPV)/Hib, Hib-MenC-TT plus DTPa-HBV-IPV, or MenC-CRM 197 plus DTPa-HBV-IPV/Hib (control). At 12 to 15 months, subjects received a polysaccharid…
Nation-wide study of the occurrence of Listeria monocytogenes in French soils using culture-based and molecular detection methods
2013
Identifiant HAL : hal-01120618; International audience; Soil is a potential reservoir of human pathogens and a possible source of contamination of animals, crops and water. In order to study the distribution of Listeria monocytogenes in French soils, a real-time PCR TaqMan assay targeting the phosphoribosylpyrophosphate synthetase (prs) gene of L. monocytogenes was developed for the specific detection and quantification of this bacterium within a collection of 1315 soil DNAs originated from the French Soil Quality Monitoring Network. The prs real-time PCR TaqMan assay was specific for L. monocytogenes and could quantify accurately down to 104L. monocytogenes per gram of dry soil. Among the …
