Pyrogallarenes as alkali metal receptors: the role of cation-pi interactions in complexation.

Crystallization studies of C-methyl pyrogallarene with potassium, rubidium and caesium bromides or chlorides resulted in a hydrogen bonded molecular cage in which the alkali metal cations are eta6 coordinated to aromatic rings via strong cation-pi interactions.

Hydrogen-bonded dimers of a thiacalixarene substituted by carbamoylmethylphosphineoxide groups at the wide rim.

A thiacalix[4]arene derivative bearing four carbamoylmethylphosphineoxide groups at the wide rim forms hydrogen-bonded, dimeric capsules with S8 symmetry in the crystalline state and in apolar solvents, where the inclusion of cationic guests could be proved by 1H NMR and ESI mass spectra.

XPS study of leached glass surfaces

Abstract By use of a special deconvolution algorithm, it was possible to decompose the XPS O 1s signal into several components reflecting different oxygen bonds. The influence of exposure in vacuo, environmental atmosphere, distilled water, and in a polish solution as corrosive media on the surface of different glasses has been studied. The O 1s signals of fused silica, Na 2 O· n SiO 2 glasses, a BaO·SiO 2 and a BaOB 2 O 3 SiO 2 glass (Schott SK 16) were analyzed. On the glass surfaces, leached layers were formed and analyzed qualitatively and semiquantitatively by XPS and optical and infrared methods. Abstract In recent years, there has been a resurgence in the interest in the use of ZnO (Eg ∼ 3.37 eV) as a material for a wide range of opto-emitter applications spanning visible and short wavelengths. Bulk, thin films and nanomaterials obtained using different synthesis methods have been investigated for optoelectronic and biotechnological device applications. Permeability network model for non-crimp fabrics

In this work a global permeability model is developed and applied to a biaxial Non-crimp stitched fabric (NCF). This model focuses on a detailed meso-scale description of the fabric geometry, which takes into account the local permeability distribution in a fabric due to perturbations of the geometry as well as the geometrical features which arise from the stitching process. It is shown in this work that these features significantly affects the global permeability. The influence of the amount and type of perturbation of a fabric is also studied in this work. Improved Photocatalytic Activity of Polysiloxane TiO2 Composites by Thermally Induced Nanoparticle Bulk Clustering and Dye Adsorption

Fine control of nanoparticle clustering within polymeric matrices can be tuned to enhance the physicochemical properties of the resulting composites, which are governed by the interplay of nanoparticle surface segregation and bulk clustering. To this aim, out-of-equilibrium strategies can be leveraged to program the multiscale organization of such systems. Here, we present experimental results indicating that bulk assembly of highly photoactive clusters of titanium dioxide nanoparticles within an in situ synthesized polysiloxane matrix can be thermally tuned.
