The meniscus plays a critical role in load transmission, stability and energy dissipation in the knee joint. Loss of the meniscus leads to joint degeneration and osteoarthritis. In a number of cases replacement of the resected meniscal tissue by a synthetic implant might avoid the articular cartilage degeneration. None of the available implants presents optimal biomechanics characteristic due to the fact the biomechanics functionality of the meniscus is not yet fully understood. TEMPERATURE DEPENDENT NOISY MODELS OF PSEUDOMORPHIC HEMTs

From a complete characterization in terms of noise and scattering parameters carried out at room temperature in the 8–16 GHz frequency range, the noisy small‐signal model of a pseudomotphic HEMT series has been extracted. The transistor scattering parameters have been subsequently measured at lower temperatures (down to −50 °C) by placing the device text fixture in a thermo‐controlled chamber. The model effectiveness has then been tested by determining the circuit element values at the different temperatures and by observing the model noise performance.

Diagonalization of large matrices: a new parallel algorithm.

On the basis of a dressed matrices formalism, a new algorithm has been devised for obtaining the lowest eigenvalue and the corresponding eigenvector of large real symmetric matrices. Given an N × N matrix, the proposed algorithm consists in the diagonalization of (N - 1)2 × 2 dressed matrices. Both sequential and parallel versions of the proposed algorithm have been implemented. Tests have been performed on a Hilbert matrix, and the results show that this algorithm is up 340 times faster than the corresponding LAPACK routine for N = 10(4) and about 10% faster than the Davidson method. Spherical Harmonics Expansion of Fundamental Solutions and Their Derivatives for Homogeneous Elliptic Operators

In this work, a unified scheme for computing the fundamental solutions of a three-dimensional homogeneous elliptic partial differential operator is presented. The scheme is based on the Rayleigh expansion and on the Fourier representation of a homogeneous function. The scheme has the advantage of expressing the fundamental solutions and their derivatives up to the desired order without any term-by-term differentiation. Moreover, the coefficients of the series need to be computed only once, thus making the presented scheme attractive for numerical implementation. One challenge of a systematic coarse-graining procedure is the extraction of the dynamical properties, namely, the memory kernel, from equilibrium all-atom simulations. The warehouse is one of the essential components of logistics and supply chains. The efficiency of the whole chain is affected by the performance of warehouse operations and, more particularly, the storage and retrieval of goods. This paper considers a storage and retrieval problem in a real warehouse with random storage and different types of forklifts, depending on the locations they can access.
