Hierarchy of solutions to the NLS equation and multi-rogue waves.

The solutions to the one dimensional focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) are given in terms of determinants. The orders of these determinants are arbitrarily equal to 2N for any nonnegative integer $N$ and generate a hierarchy of solutions which can be written as a product of an exponential depending on t by a quotient of two polynomials of degree N(N+1) in x and t. These solutions depend on 2N-2 parameters and can be seen as deformations with 2N-2 parameters of the Peregrine breather P_{N} : when all these parameters are equal to 0, we recover the P_{N} breather whose the maximum of the module is equal to 2N+1. Several conjectures about the structure of the solutions are given.

Molecular polarizability of Si/Ge/GaAs semiconductors clusters

The interacting induced dipole polarization model implemented in our program for the calculation of molecular polarizabilities (POLAR) is used for the calculation of the molecular dipole-dipole polarizability ${\overline{\overline{α}}}$. POLAR is tested with Si$_{n}$, Ge$_{n}$ and Ga$_{n}$As$_{m}$ small clusters. The polarizability is an important quantity for the identification of clusters with different numbers of atoms and even for the separation of isomers. OH-functionalized open-ended armchair single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) studied by density functional theory

The structures of ideal armchair (5,5) single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) of different lengths (3.7, 8.8, and 16.0 A for C40H20, C80H20, and C140H20) and with 1–10 hydroxyl groups at the end of the nanotube were fully optimized at the B3LYP/3-21G level, and in some cases at the B3LYP/6-31G* level, and the energy associated with the attachment of the OH substituent was determined. The OH-group attachment energy was compared with the OH functionalization of phenanthrene and picene models and with previous results for zigzag (9.0) SWCNT systems. Printable Hydrogels Based on Alginate and Halloysite Nanotubes.

The design of hydrogels for the controlled release of active species is an attractive challenge. In this work, we prepared hybrid hydrogels composed of halloysite nanotubes as the inorganic component, and alginate as the organic counterpart. The reported procedure allowed us to provide the resulting materials with a peculiar wire-like shape. Both optical and scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize the morphological properties of the hydrogel wires, whose diameters were ca. 0.19 and 0.47 mm, respectively. Adaptative air traffic network: Statistical regularities in air traffic management

Starting from traffic data on flights trajectories-planned and actual ones-in Europe, we build a navigation point network. We study this network which exhibits different features for different European countries. In particular, some countries uses a high number of navpoints, facilitating the planning of the flight plan by air companies at the cost of higher concentrations of traffic in few nodes. Making use of the deviations from the planned trajectories, we find that once again different countries have different control procedures with respect to traffic management. A reinforcement learning approach for individualizing erythropoietin dosages in hemodialysis patients

This paper presents a reinforcement learning (RL) approach for anemia management in patients undergoing chronic renal failure. Erythropoietin (EPO) is the treatment of choice for this kind of anemia but it is an expensive drug and with some dangerous side-effects that should be considered especially for patients who do not respond to the treatment. Therefore, an individualized treatment appears to be necessary. RL is a suitable approach to tackle this problem.
