Variational multiframe restoration of images degraded by noisy (stochastic) blur kernels

This article introduces and explores a class of degradation models in which an image is blurred by a noisy (stochastic) point spread function (PSF). The aim is to restore a sharper and cleaner image from the degraded one. Due to the highly ill-posed nature of the problem, we propose to recover the image given a sequence of several observed degraded images or multiframes. Thus we adopt the idea of the multiframe approach introduced for image super-resolution, which reduces distortions appearing in the degraded images. Axial apodization in 4Pi-confocal microscopy by annular binary filters

We present a novel technique for considerably decreasing the sidelobe height of the axial point-spread function of one-photon 4Pi-confocal microscopes. By means of a numerical example, in which the ratio between the excitation and the fluorescence wavelengths was set to epsilon = lambdaexc/lambdadet = 0.8, we show that simply inserting a pair of properly designed two-ring binary masks in the illumination set allows the height of the axial sidelobes to be reduced from 20% to 5% of the height of the central peak. This allows one to receive the full benefit of the strong narrowness of the central lobe provided by the 4Pi-confocal technique.

A New Set of Quartic Trivariate Polynomial Equations for Stratified Camera Self-calibration under Zero-Skew and Constant Parameters Assumptions

This paper deals with the problem of self-calibrating a moving camera with constant parameters. We propose a new set of quartic trivariate polynomial equations in the unknown coordinates of the plane at infinity derived under the no-skew assumption. Our new equations allow to further enforce the constancy of the principal point across all images while retrieving the plane at infinity. Six such polynomials, four of which are independent, are obtained for each triplet of images. The proposed equations can be solved along with the so-called modulus constraints and allow to improve the performance of existing methods.

Position Analysis of Spatial Mechanisms

In this paper matrix notation is used to develop a computational algorithm for position analysis of spatial mechanisms having revolute (R) and prismatic (P) pairs. Since all lower pairs are equivalent to some combination of R and P pairs, the method works for spatial mechanisms containing any lower pair. By using the method, spatial mechanisms are describable by simple equations which are easily programmable.

The positioning system of the ANTARES Neutrino Telescope

The ANTARES neutrino telescope, located 40km off the coast of Toulon in the Mediterranean Sea at a mooring depth of about 2475m, consists of twelve detection lines equipped typically with 25 storeys. Every storey carries three optical modules that detect Cherenkov light induced by charged secondary particles (typically muons) coming from neutrino interactions. As these lines are flexible structures fixed to the sea bed and held taut by a buoy, sea currents cause the lines to move and the storeys to rotate. This paper considers the problems of delay-dependent stability and l"1-gain analysis for a class of positive two-dimensional (2D) Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy linear systems with state delays described by the second FM model. AbstractThis study was aimed to investigate the predictive value of the radiomics features extracted from pericoronaric adipose tissue — around the anterior interventricular artery (IVA) — to assess the condition of coronary arteries compared with the use of clinical characteristics alone (i.e., risk factors). Clinical and radiomic data of 118 patients were retrospectively analyzed. Probabilistic classification of intracranial gliomas in digital microscope images based on EGFR quantity

A glioma is a type of cancer occurring, in the majority of cases, in the brain. The World Health Organization (WHO) assigns a grade from I to IV to this tumor, with I being the least aggressive and IV being the most aggressive. In glioma cells of grade IV the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptors (EGFRs) are over expressed. In this paper we hypothesize that this overexpression occurs also for gliomas of grades I to III.
