Human arm motion can inspire the trajectory planning of anthropomorphic robotic arms to achieve energy-efficient movements. An approach for predicting metabolic cost in the planar human arm motion by means of the biomechanical simulation is proposed in this work. Two biomechanical models, including an analytical model and a musculoskeletal model, are developed to implement the proposed approach. The analytical model is developed by modifying a human muscle expenditure model, in which the muscles are grouped as torque providers for computation efficiency. Perceptually Optimized Image Rendering

We develop a framework for rendering photographic images by directly optimizing their perceptual similarity to the original visual scene. Specifically, over the set of all images that can be rendered on a given display, we minimize the normalized Laplacian pyramid distance (NLPD), a measure of perceptual dissimilarity that is derived from a simple model of the early stages of the human visual system. Extracting Deformation-Aware Local Features by Learning to Deform

Despite the advances in extracting local features achieved by handcrafted and learning-based descriptors, they are still limited by the lack of invariance to non-rigid transformations. In this paper, we present a new approach to compute features from still images that are robust to non-rigid deformations to circumvent the problem of matching deformable surfaces and objects. Our deformation-aware local descriptor, named DEAL, leverages a polar sampling and a spatial transformer warping to provide invariance to rotation, scale, and image deformations. PanoRoom: From the Sphere to the 3D Layout

We propose a novel FCN able to work with omnidirectional images that outputs accurate probability maps representing the main structure of indoor scenes, which is able to generalize on different data. Our approach handles occlusions and recovers complex shaped rooms more faithful to the actual shape of the real scenes. We outperform the state of the art not only in accuracy of the 3D models but also in speed.

Creating and Reenacting Controllable 3D Humans with Differentiable Rendering

This paper proposes a new end-to-end neural rendering architecture to transfer appearance and reenact human actors. Our method leverages a carefully designed graph convolutional network (GCN) to model the human body manifold structure, jointly with differentiable rendering, to synthesize new videos of people in different contexts from where they were initially recorded. Texture advection on discontinuous flows

Texture advection techniques, which transport textures using a velocity field, are used to visualize the dynamics of a flow on a triangle mesh. Some flow phenomena lead to velocity fields with discontinuities that cause the deformation of the texture which is not properly controlled by these techniques. We propose a method to detect and visualize discontinuities on a flow, keeping consistent texture advection at both sides of the discontinuity. A multicoloring of a weighted graph G is an assignment of sets of colors to the vertices of G so that two adjacent vertices receive two disjoint sets of colors. A multicoloring problem on G is to find a multicoloring of G. In particular, we are interested in a minimum multicoloring that uses the least total number of colors. The main focus of this work is to obtain upper bounds on the weighted chromatic number of some classes of graphs in terms of the weighted clique number.
