El verdadero reto de la fotografía (como arte representacional comunicativo)

2018

Abstract: I argue that authentic photography is not able to develop to the full as a communicative representational art. Photography is authentic when it is true to its self-image as the imprinting of images. For an image to be imprinted is for its content to be linked to the scene in which it originates by a chain of sufficient, mind-independent causes. Communicative representational art (in any medium: photography, painting, literature, music, etc.) is art that exploits the resources of representation to achieve artistically interesting communication of thought. The central resources of representation are content, vehicle properties, and the interplay between these two. Whereas painting a…

Non-periodic Discrete-Spline Wavelets

2015

This chapter describes wavelet analysis in the spaces of discrete splines whose spans are powers of 2. This wavelet analysis is similar to wavelet analysis in the polynomial-spline spaces. The transforms are based on relations between exponential discrete splines from different resolution scales. Generators of discrete-spline wavelet spaces are described. The discrete-spline wavelet transforms generate wavelet transforms in signal space. Practically, wavelet transforms of signals are implemented by multirate filtering of signals by two-channel filter banks with the downsampling factor 2 (critically sampled filter banks). The filtering implementation is accelerated by switching to the polyph…

Using Digital Hydraulics in Secondary Control of Motor Drive

2020

Due to the increased focus on pollution and global warming, there is a demand for energy efficient systems. This also applies to the offshore oil and gas industry. Normally used hydraulic systems tend to suffer from low energy efficiency, especially when operating with part loads. In the last decades, a new pump and motor technology has experienced increased interest due to the potential of high energy efficiency in a wide range of operation conditions. This new technology is called digital displacement machine technology. Nowadays, there is a desire from the offshore oil and gas industry to use this digital displacement machine technology to design highly efficient hydraulic winch drive sy…

Saliency Features for 3D CAD-Data in the Context of Sampling-Based Motion Planning

2021

In this paper, we consider disassembly scenarios for real-world 3D CAD-data, where each component is defined by a triangle mesh. For a fast construction of collision-free disassembly paths, common approaches use sampling-based rigid body motion planning which is well studied in the literature. One fact that has so far received little attention is that in industrial disassembly scenarios components are often attached to each other with flexible fastening elements like clips. In the planning process, the fastening elements show the following characteristics: 1) They can cause complex non-linear disassembly paths. 2) They are often deformable. 3) They are usually modeled in a relaxed state and…

Analysis of the depth of field of integral imaging displays based on wave optics.

2013

In this paper, we analyze the depth of field (DOF) of integral imaging displays based on wave optics. With considering the diffraction effect, we analyze the intensity distribution of light with multiple micro-lenses and derive a DOF calculation formula for integral imaging display system. We study the variations of DOF values with different system parameters. Experimental results are provided to verify the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. The analyses and experimental results presented in this paper could be beneficial for better understanding and designing of integral imaging displays.

Superresolved common-path phase-shifting digital inline holographic microscopy using a spatial light modulator.

2012

Common-path phase-shifting lensless holographic microscopy has been recently proposed as a novel approach capable of high numerical aperture imaging in a lensless digital inline holographic microscopy layout [Opt. Lett.35, 3919 (2010)]. Here we present proof-of-concept validation for improving the resolution limit imposed by diffraction in such a setup. This is accomplished by shifting the phase lens displayed at the spatial light modulator, which moves the illumination point source to different off-axis positions. For each off-axis position, a set of inline phase-shifted holograms are recorded by the digital sensor and stored at the computer’s memory for later digital postprocessing. As a …

A high-resolution layer-wise discontinuous Galerkin formulation for multilayered composite plates

2020

Abstract In this work, a novel high-resolution formulation for multilayered composite plates is presented. The formulations is referred to as high-resolution since it combines (i) Layer-Wise plate theories, which are based on a per-layer, high-order expansion of the primary variables throughout the plate’s thickness, providing a detailed layer-level description of the sought solution; (ii) The discontinuous Galerkin method, a numerical approach based on a discontinuous representation of the unknown fields over the mesh elements and on the introduction of boundary integral operators enforcing inter-element continuity, which allow the natural treatment of high-order mesh elements and provide …

Polynomial Spline-Wavelets

2015

This chapter presents wavelets in the spaces of polynomial splines. The wavelets’ design is based on the Zak transform, which provides an integral representation of spline-wavelets. The exponential wavelets which participate in the integral representation are counterparts of the exponential splines that were introduced in Chap. 4. Fast algorithms for the wavelet transforms of splines are presented. Generators of spline-wavelet spaces are described, such as the B-wavelets and their duals and the Battle-Lemarie wavelets whose shifts form orthonormal bases of the spline-wavelet spaces.
