Underemployment among mothers of children with intellectual disabilities

2018

Background Mothers with lifelong care responsibilities might involuntarily be non-employed or work part-time, both of which are defined as “underemployment.” This study aimed to investigate who these underemployed mothers are and what are the factors associated with such employment hardship when having a child with intellectual disability (ID). Method An interview survey was conducted in 2011 in two local authorities of Taiwan on 876 working-age mothers with a child with intellectual disability; 514 of them were working part-time/non-employed and chosen as participants of this study. Results The mothers with a younger child with intellectual disability, a higher level of education, a lower …

Potential Risk of Medication Discrepancies and Reconciliation Errors at Admission and Discharge from an Inpatient Medical Service

2010

Background: Medication discrepancies, defined as unexplained variations among drug regimens at care transitions, are common. Some are unintended and cause reconciliation errors that are potentially detrimental for patients. Objective: To determine the prevalence of medication discrepancies and reconciliation errors at admission and discharge in hospitalized patients and explore risk factors for reconciliation errors and their potential clinical impact. Methods: An observational prospective study was conducted at a general teaching hospital. Patients who were admitted to the internal medicine service and were receiving chronic preadmission treatment were included in the study. Preadmission t…

Polypharmacy in older people: lessons from 10 years of experience with the REPOSI register

2018

As a consequence of population aging, we have witnessed in internal medicine hospital wards a progressive shift from a population of in-patients relatively young and mainly affected by a single ailment to one of ever older and more and more complex patients with multiple chronic diseases, followed as out-patients by many different specialists with poor integration and inevitably treated with multiple medications. Polypharmacy (defined as the chronic intake of five or more drugs) is associated with increased risks of drug-drug interactions and related adverse effects, prescription and intake errors, poor compliance, re-hospitalization and mortality. With this background, the Italian Society …

Organizational Initiatives for Promoting Employee Work-Life Reconciliation Over the Life Course. A Systematic Review of Intervention Studies

2016

This review aimed to explore the initiatives, interventions, and experiments implemented by employing organizations and designed to support the work-life reconciliation at workplaces, and the effects of these actions on employees’ well-being at work. A systematic literature review was conducted on the basis of a search in PsycInfo, ERIC, and the ISI Web of Science database of Social Sciences between January 2000 and May 2015. Those studies were included in which either organizational or individual-level initiatives, interventions, or experiments were implemented by employers at workplaces in order to promote the work-life reconciliation of their employees.

Choice Feminism and Adult Worker Model in Neoliberal Era. Some Effects of Inclusive Policies

2017

In the last decade, the adult work model has been invoked, both by the EU social reformers and at an international level, to orient their respective policies on feminine work and social inclusion at different levels. Such neoliberal model assumes that feminization of work implies treating women as autonomous individuals free to choose their carrier in the job market or to decide whether to work, to take care of their family or to find time and spaces to conciliate both. In the western legal tradition and policies, the ideological approach of separation between public and private sphere is still dominant, and care has been confined in a private space concealed within the family. At the same …

LAS CONDENAS NEGOCIADAS EN EL PROCESO PENAL: ANÁLISIS TEÓRICO Y ECONÓMICO DE DOS MODELOS EN PUGNA. (NEGOTIATED SENTENCES IN CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS: THE…

2021
