The discovery and preservation of the Great Inscription of Gortyna in Crete by Italian researchers in the late nineteenth century. and the first decades of the twentieth century. was an important cultural and scientific recognition for the young Italian nation. In the past the island of Crete had been tied to the Republic of Venice and this report also favored sending in Crete the young epigraphist F. Halbherr who among considerable vicissitudes came to together to the epigraphist german E. Fabricius the inclusion of the famous ancient city of Gortyna. The inscription among the oldest and most comprehensive so far known throughout Europe the rules contained on the family's legacy in general and the rights and duties of some of the people of the Minoan civilization (480-450 BC). The inscription was carved on blocks organic limestone a restored ancient building which later in Roman times was turned into odeon. The Laws of Gortyn were engraved on the remains of the wall forming the passageway in front of the steps of the odeon. The essay traces the events that led to the discovery and subsequent storage made by Halbherr especially with the help of archaeologist L. Pernier and finally with the help of architect E. Stefani who designed a modern cover on the top of the ambulatory of the segments containing the inscription. This coverage was made to perform during the First World War on the basis of the Italian project from the Greek Government in order to protect the membership from possible war damage but especially from vandalism. The roof brick clay of the Laws of Gortyna still serves its function and ensures the use of the monument bearing witness to the preservation of Italian culture in Greece and more generally in the world. The volume Tommaso Maria Napoli Utriusque Architecturae Brief Compendium 1688 Rome treaty on civil and military factories and preservation of the architecture of the Dominican friar Tommaso Maria Napoli wants to help increase our understanding of the principles that should underpin the realization of civil and military baroque and late baroque period as expressed in the short treatise written by the monk architect born in Palermo Tommaso Maria Napoli (1659-1725) and published in Rome at the end of the seventeenth century. This translation from the Latin of the treaty drawn up by experts (Fabio Zarbo e Pietro Zarbo) included is an interesting research drafted jointly with Giuseppe Tantillo status of some of the architecture without realizing or attributed to the architect Tommaso Maria Napoli. In fact some cards are attached to the volume on the substance and state of preservation of the cathedral of the Assumption of Mary in Dubrovnik (Croatia) of the villas Valguarnera and Palagonia in Bagheria (near Palermo Italy) of the monument to the Immaculate and one of the towers of the church of San Domenico in Palermo (Italy). Differences of raw cork quality in productive cork oak woods in Sicily in relation to stand density

Differences of raw cork quality, in terms of thickness and porosity, were observed in productive cork oak (Quercus suber L.) stands in the Nebrodi and Iblei mountains of Sicily in relation to stand density. Five study areas were chosen across a range of different stand density satisfying specific sampling requirements among two managed cork oak stands. Effect of Standard Disk Plough on Soil Translocation in Sloping Sicilian Vineyards

Tillage is the main force of soil redistribution in agricultural land use and has been seen as more critical than water erosion. This study aims to evaluate the effect of tillage with standard disk in vineyards. A representative study area with grapevines was selected, and 39 inter-rows were selected to test the effect of slope and forward speed. In each inter-row, a strip of soil was collected, and mixed with 2 kg of coloured sand used as a tracer, then replaced in the strip, and shallow soil tillage was performed by means of a standard disk plough. The Importance of Internal Resources and Capabilities and Destination Resources to Explain Firm Competitive Position in the Spanish Tourism Industry

This study draws on the Resource-Based View to analyze the effects of distinctive competences in tourism firms and location in a tourism district on competitive position, and explores the moderating effects of the tourism destination. Multiple linear regression was used to test the research hypotheses on a sample of 1019 Spanish tourism firms. Results reveal that financial resources and dynamic and production capabilities favor a better competitive position for tourism firms in general; however, coordination and marketing capabilities are key factors for firms embedded in a tourism district, while dynamic capabilities have a negative effect in this case. Air transport is an essential component of the tourism industry, and the number, frequency, and capacity of flight connections may influence the level of tourism demand, especially for island destinations. This paper evaluates the influence of air transport on tourism arrivals to selected islands in seven southern European Union countries to determine the nature of the relationship between tourist arrivals and air transport, specifically, whether air transport services generate tourism demand or merely enable touristic flows.
