Death and Rebirth: Images of Death in Sicily

2015

Photographs were often taken during funerary ceremonies in Sicily. Local photographers were commissioned to document funerals as if they were christenings, communions or wedding ceremonies; and it is no mere coincidence that in funeral portraits the relatives arranged around the coffin assumed postures similar to those seen in photos of festivities. This tradition of taking photos during such “mixed occasions” gives the images a profound significance and highlights the archaic roots of the popular ideology of death as a continuum of life.

Experimenting Through Neuromarketing to Measure the Impact of Spanish Cultural Heritage

2020

This is the continuation of a study based on the traditional image model of destination, formed by the constructions of cognition, emotion, and image. The objective is to study the model through a deconstruction in all forms through the application of neuroscience, a system of structural equations, virtual reality, and the Spanish architectural and cultural heritage as a stimulus. Variables were studied with an electroencephalogram through brain bioelectric wave responses, alpha and beta. The deconstruction of the image model consists of evaluating the hypotheses of the traditional image model of the destination in all its possible forms, giving rise to 3 models. Model 1. Drivers and outcomes of consumer engagement : Insights from mobile money usage in Ghana

2019

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the drivers of consumer engagement and its consequences via the experiences of mobile money services’ users in Ghana and to discuss its implications for the society, financial service innovation, delivery and operations. Design/methodology/approach A pre-tested survey instrument was used with a sample of 595 mobile money services users in Ghana. SmartPLS application was used to analyze the data and report findings. Findings The study shows that perceived risk, consumer empowerment, subjective norm, performance expectancy and effort expectancy influence the affect component of consumer engagement and explain around half of its variance. The ef…

Reinforced cyclam derivatives functionalized on the bridging unit

2016

International audience; A new synthetic method has been developed for the preparation of reinforced cyclams (1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) C-functionalized on the bridging unit, by using a "one pot" reaction starting from the appropriate bis-aminal cyclam intermediate. The high reactivity of quaternized aminal moiety toward nucleophilic agent has been used to elaborate a new class of cross-bridged and side-bridged cyclam derivatives containing cyanide group on the ethylene bridge. Several chelators and corresponding copper(II) complexes have been prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction. These new constrained polyazamacrocycles are valuable precursors of bifunctional chelating a…

The domino reaction between 4,6-dinitrobenzofuroxan and cyclopentadiene. Insights on the nature of the molecular mechanism

2004

Abstract The molecular mechanism of the domino reaction between 4,6-dinitrobenzofuroxan, 1 , and cyclopentadiene, Cp, to give the adduct 11 is examined through density functional theory (DFT) calculations at B3LYP/6-31G* level. This domino reaction comprises two consecutive formally [4+2] cycloadditions. The first one is a two-center addition initialized by the nucleophilic attack of Cp to the more electrophilic center of 1 . The subsequent cyclization can take place along two competitive channels associated to the formation of a second C–C bond yielding the formally [2+4] cycloadduct 9 , or a C–O bond yielding the formally [4+2] cycloadduct 10 . The second cycloaddition is a stepwise proce…

Real-world experience with the all-oral, interferon-free regimen of ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir and dasabuvir for the treatment of chronic hepa…

2017

Summary Real-world studies are relevant to complement clinical trials on novel antiviral therapies against chronic hepatitis C; however, clinical practice data are currently limited. This study investigated effectiveness and safety of ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir (OBV/PTV/r)±dasabuvir (DSV)±ribavirin (RBV) for treatment of HCV genotype (GT) 1 and GT4 infection in a large real-world cohort. The German Hepatitis C Registry is an observational cohort study prospectively collecting clinical practice data on direct-acting antiviral therapies. Patients with GT1/4 infection treated with OBV/PTV/r±DSV±RBV were analysed. Effectiveness was assessed by sustained virologic response in 558 patients…

Can the response to Omalizumab be influenced by treatment duration? A real-life study

2017

Objective It is unknown whether Omalizumab effectiveness changes over the course of time. Our retrospective real-life study tried to analyze whether Omalizumab response may be influenced by treatment duration. Methods 340 severe asthmatics treated with Omalizumab for different periods of time were recruited. They were subdivided into 4 groups according to the Omalizumab treatment length: 60 months. Omalizumab treatment results (FEV1, exacerbations, ACT, SABA use, asthma control levels, medications used e and ICS doses) were compared. Results ACT, exacerbations, GINA control levels, ICS doses and SABA use were similar in all groups with different Omalizumab treatment durations. Using a linea…

Meeting the Challenges of Generational Change in the Teaching Profession : Towards a European Model for Intergenerational Teacher Collaboration

2013

In a European-wide effort to improve the professional development of teachers, the 2AgePro project was conducted from November 2008 to October 2010. One of its goals was to develop and test different forms of intergenerational teacher collaboration among junior and senior teachers in primary and secondary schools. Another aim was to utilise the results from these pilots, which were conducted in the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden, to create a model for intergenerational collaboration that could be used in any national or cultural setting. This article reports on the national pilots and proposes a European model for intergenerational collaboration for teachers. …

El coneixement i l'ús de les aplicacions educatives dels estudiants universitaris d'Espanya i la República Txeca

2020

Technological evolution has led to many changes at both professional and academic levels. The inclusion of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has caused dizzying changes in the different contexts of life (educational, professional, social). More and more applications are being downloaded by users to their mobile devices, both for entertainment and training. For this reason, this study is based on the need to assess the knowledge and attitude of university students towards downloading existing educational applications. In this way, the use and frequency of these tools in the teaching-learning process of the students will be analyzed. In order to carry out this study, the quanti…

Adaptive high-gain extended kalman filter and applications

2010

The work concerns the ``observability problem” --- the reconstruction of a dynamic process's full state from a partially measured state--- for nonlinear dynamic systems. The Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is a widely-used observer for such nonlinear systems. However it suffers from a lack of theoretical justifications and displays poor performance when the estimated state is far from the real state, e.g. due to large perturbations, a poor initial state estimate, etc… We propose a solution to these problems, the Adaptive High-Gain (EKF). Observability theory reveals the existence of special representations characterizing nonlinear systems having the observability property. Such representations…
