PIP-Space Valued Reproducing Pairs of Measurable Functions

We analyze the notion of reproducing pairs of weakly measurable functions, a generalization of continuous frames. The aim is to represent elements of an abstract space Y as superpositions of weakly measurable functions belonging to a space Z : = Z ( X , μ ), where ( X , μ ) is a measure space. Three cases are envisaged, with increasing generality: (i) Y and Z are both Hilbert spaces; (ii) Y is a Hilbert space, but Z is a pip-space; (iii) Y and Z are both pip-spaces. It is shown, in particular, that the requirement that a pair of measurable functions be reproducing strongly constrains the structure of the initial space Y. Examples are presented for each case.

Rate of Mixing for Equilibrium States in Negative Curvature and Trees

In this survey based on the recent book by the three authors, we recall the Patterson-Sullivan construction of equilibrium states for the geodesic flow on negatively curved orbifolds or tree quotients, and discuss their mixing properties, emphasizing the rate of mixing for (not necessarily compact) tree quotients via coding by countable (not necessarily finite) topological shifts. Discrimination of Radiation Quality Through Second Harmonic Out-of-Phase cw-ESR Detection

The ability to discriminate the quality of ionizing radiation is important because the biological effects produced in tissue strongly depends on both absorbed dose and linear energy transfer (LET) of ionizing particles. Here we present an experimental electron spin resonance (ESR) analysis aimed at discriminating the effective LETs of various radiation beams (e.g., 19.3 MeV protons, 60Co photons and thermal neutrons). Continuous-wave mirrorless lasing at 221  μm in sodium vapors

We demonstrate backward-directed continuous-wave (cw) emission at 2.21 {\mu}m generated on the 4P3/2-4S1/2 population-inverted transition in Na vapors two-photon excited with resonant laser light at 589 and 569 nm. Our study of power and atom-number-density threshold characteristics shows that lasing occurs at sub-10 mW total power of the applied laser light. The observed 6 mrad divergence is defined mainly by the aspect ratio of the gain region. We find that mirrorless lasing at 2.21 {\mu}m is magnetic field and polarization dependent that may be useful for remote magnetometry. Spatial Search by Continuous-Time Quantum Walk with Multiple Marked Vertices

In the typical spatial search problems solved by continuous-time quantum walk, changing the location of the marked vertices does not alter the search problem. In this paper, we consider search when this is no longer true. In particular, we analytically solve search on the "simplex of $K_M$ complete graphs" with all configurations of two marked vertices, two configurations of $M+1$ marked vertices, and two configurations of $2(M+1)$ marked vertices, showing that the location of the marked vertices can dramatically influence the required jumping rate of the quantum walk, such that using the wrong configuration's value can cause the search to fail. Optical state engineering, quantum communication, and robustness of entanglement promiscuity in three-mode Gaussian states

We present a novel, detailed study on the usefulness of three-mode Gaussian states states for realistic processing of continuous-variable quantum information, with a particular emphasis on the possibilities opened up by their genuine tripartite entanglement. We describe practical schemes to engineer several classes of pure and mixed three-mode states that stand out for their informational and/or entanglement properties. Ultraviolet quasi-phase-matched second harmonic generation in surface periodically poled lithium niobate optical waveguides

The compatibility of low concentration (alpha-phase) proton exchange channel waveguides with electric field surface periodic poling of congruent lithium niobate (SPPLN) crystals has been experimentally demonstrated. With such waveguides, we obtained ultraviolet second harmonic generation (SHG) by first order quasi-phase-matching (QPM), a result made possible by the fabrication, on Z-cut LN crystals, of periodic structures with a pitch down to 750 nm. Nonlinear copropagating QPM-SHG measurements have been carried out on such structures. The pump source was a Ti:sapphire laser with a tunability range of 700-980 nm and a 40 GHz linewidth. Exciton recombination dynamics inInAs∕InPself-assembled quantum wires

In this work we investigate the exciton recombination dynamics in InAs/ InP semiconductor self-assembled quantum wires, by means of continuous wave and time resolved photoluminescence. The continuous wave photoluminescence results seem to indicate that the temperature quenching of the emission band seems to be more probably due to unipolar thermal escape of electrons towards the InP barrier. In this work an innovative apparatus for the characterization of polymer solidification under very high cooling rates (up to thousand of K/s) is described, according to the continuous cooling transformation approach adopted in metallurgy for studying structure development in metals. Human body sensing: A pervasive approach by implanted RFID tags

Starting from the physical evidence that passive RFID systems may be used as self-sensing devices, the feasibility of human monitoring by means of implanted tags is here investigated. The key parameters to master with the purpose to enhance the sensitivity of the implanted radiosensor have been theoretically analyzed and numerically applied to a specific medical problem, i.e. the continuous monitoring of liver cancer evolution. Preliminary experimental results with simplified phantoms corroborate the analysis.
