A Gadolinium(III) Complex Based on the Thymine Nucleobase with Properties Suitable for Magnetic Resonance Imaging

The paramagnetic gadolinium(III) ion is used as contrast agent in magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to improve the lesion detection and characterization. It generates a signal by changing the relaxivity of protons from associated water molecules and creates a clearer physical distinction between the molecule and the surrounding tissues. New gadolinium-based contrast agents displaying larger relaxivity values and specifically targeted might provide higher resolution and better functional images. Our basic assumption is that all voices are born from listening. We will focus on the pronouncing difficulties of the vowel /y/ by Polish learners of level A1/A2: a preliminary descriptive and comparative study, corroborated by an acoustic study, determined that the phoneme /y/ is often pronounced: 1) too posterior and/or too loose (thus tending towards the /u/); 2) too anterior (tending towards the /i/). However, the vowels /i/ and /u/ exist in Polish and are the closest corresponding sounds to the vowel /y/, absent in the Polish vocal system. Towards Experiencing Eating as a Form of Play

There is an increasing trend in interaction design to engage with food. We note that most prior work targets instrumental benefits (for example see food tracking apps to manage nutritional intake). In contrast, in this article, we highlight the potential of technology to support eating as a form of play. We reflect on our own work to articulate two design strategies for game designers on how they can facilitate playful eating experiences using novel technologies. Ultimately, with our work, we aim to facilitate a more playful engagement around the way we eat.

Advanced spatio-temporal point processes for the Sicily seismicity analysis

Due to the complexity of the generator process of seismic events, we study under several aspects the interaction structure between earthquake events using recently developed spatio-temporal statistical techniques and models. Using these advanced statistical tools, we aim to characterise the global and local scale cluster behaviour of the Easter Sicily seismicity considering the catalogue data since 2006, when the Italian National Seismic Network was upgraded and earthquake location was sensibly improved. On hidden heterogeneity in directional asymmetry – can systematic bias be avoided?

8 pages; International audience; Directional asymmetry (DA) biases the analysis of fluctuating asymmetry (FA) mainly because among-individual differences in the predisposition for DA are difficult to detect. However, we argue that systematic bias mainly results from predictable associations between signed right-left asymmetry and other factors, i.e. from systematic variation in DA. We here demonstrate methods to test and correct for this, by analysing bilateral asymmetry in size and shape of an irregular sea urchin.
