Support Vector Machines Framework for Linear Signal Processing

This paper presents a support vector machines (SVM) framework to deal with linear signal processing (LSP) problems. The approach relies on three basic steps for model building: (1) identifying the suitable base of the Hilbert signal space in the model, (2) using a robust cost function, and (3) minimizing a constrained, regularized functional by means of the method of Lagrange multipliers. We expect that democracy enables us to utilize collective intelligence such that our collective decisions build and enhance social welfare, and such that we accept their distributive and normative consequences. Collective decisions are produced by voting procedures which aggregate individual preferences and judgments. Before and after, individual preferences and judgments change as their underlying attitudes, values, and opinions change through discussion and deliberation. This paper presents a method for ranking a set of decision making units according to their level of efficiency and which takes into account uncertainty in the data. Efficiency is analysed using fuzzy DEA techniques and the ranking is based on the statistical analysis of cases that include representative situations. The method enables the removal of the sometimes unrealistic hypothesis of a perfect trade-off between increased inputs and outputs. This model is compared with other DEA models that work with imprecise or fuzzy data. Abstract The transient and the steady-state single-test tension infiltrometer methods are expected to provide poor hydraulic conductivity K0 estimates in soils situated in the lateral capillarity domain. To evaluate the best strategy for conducting a single-test experiment in these soils, infiltration experiments were numerically simulated for a sandy loam and a clay soil by using two initial pressure heads (−1 and −100 m), four pressure heads at the soil surface (from −0·15 m to −0·01 m), and a maximum duration of 4 h (sandy loam soil) and 12 h (clay soil). VIRES: A distributed open architecture for pictorial database

In this paper we describe VIRES (Visual Information Retrieval Extendible System) an open distributed pictorial database for image retrieval. The retrieval methods, pictorial indexing and data are distributed over the network. VIRES has been designed as an open architecture. The system is based on the concept of distributed model via dictionary in order to reach a good versatility without changing the kernel of VIRES.

Abstract The problem of finite-time stability for linear discrete-time systems with time-varying delay is studied in this paper. In order to deal with the time delay, the original system is firstly transformed into two interconnected subsystems. By constructing a delay-dependent Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional and using a two-term approximation of the time-varying delay, sufficient conditions of finite-time stability are derived and expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). This paper proposes a speed observer for linear induction motors (LIMs), which is composed of two parts: 1) a linear Kalman filter (KF) for the online estimation of the inductor currents and induced part flux linkage components; and 2) a speed estimator based on the total least squares (TLS) EXIN neuron. The TLS estimator receives as inputs the state variables, estimated by the KF, and provides as output the LIM linear speed, which is fed back to the KF and the control system. Abstract This paper clarifies the nature of the Leverrier-Faddeev algorithm for generalized and state-space systems. It presents useful diagrams for recursive computation of the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial and the coefficient matrices of the adjoint matrix for various matrix pencils. A simplified case covers recursive equations and diagrams for inversion of the second-order matrix pencil (Es2 + A1s + A0) where E may be singular. The appendix provides two examples of mechanical and heat exchange systems which can be described by the generalized models.
Steady-state dynamic response of various hysteretic systems endowed with fractional derivative elements

In this paper, the steady-state dynamic response of hysteretic oscillators comprising fractional derivative elements and subjected to harmonic excitation is examined. Notably, this problem may arise in several circumstances, as for instance, when structures which inherently exhibit hysteretic behavior are supplemented with dampers or isolators often modeled by employing fractional terms. The amplitude of the steady-state response is determined analytically by using an equivalent linearization approach.
