On the Real-Time Simulation and Control of the Continuous Casting Process
1990
Ll this paper we present a method for controlling in real-time the secondary cooling of the continuous casting machine. The method is based on the heat transfer model, which simulates the temperature distribution of the cast, and on the use of direct digital control (DDC). Off-line simulation results considering the control method is presented.
Robust coordinated control algorithm for multiple marine vessels with external disturbances
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/597195 Open Access The problem of coordinated control for multiple marine vessels in the presence of external disturbances is considered in this paper. A robust coordinated control algorithm is proposed for multiple marine vessels. The proposed robust coordinated control algorithm is divided into two parts. The first part develops an extended state observer to estimate the disturbances of marine vessels. The second part presents a robust coordinated control algorithm based on the output of the extended state observer. Furthermore, the rob…

National economy: Quality Research of Products and Goods
1993
This edition is to reflect research results with modern analytical methodology including measurements and examinations with spectrophotometric appliances in combination with modern nondestructive testing methods which are employed in farming products' analysis and in merchandise quality control as well as relative advantages in terms of methodology.
Comparison of well-being of older adult choir singers and the general population in Finland: A case-control study
2016
Previous research suggests that singing in a choir as an older adult is associated with better quality of life (QOL). However, the degree to which sociodemographic variables and level of engagement in hobbies contribute to this relationship is largely unknown. The aim of the study was to compare quality of life (QOL) of older adult choir singers with a matched sample of older adults from the general population in Finland, taking into consideration sociodemographic variables, satisfaction with health, and level of engagement in hobbies. Case-control methods were used to match a sample of 109 older adult singers with a sample of 307 older adults from the general population. Tobit regression …
Is large-scale rapid CoV-2 testing a substitute for lockdowns?
2021
Background Various forms of contact restrictions have been adopted in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Around February 2021, rapid testing appeared as a new policy instrument. Some claim it may serve as a substitute for contact restrictions. We study the strength of this argument by evaluating the effects of a unique policy experiment: In March and April 2021, the city of Tübingen set up a testing scheme while relaxing contact restrictions. Methods We compare case rates in Tübingen county to an appropriately identified control unit. We employ the synthetic control method. We base interpretations of our findings on an extended SEIR model. Findings The experiment led to an increase in the …
Magnetic Levitation – Modelling, Identification and Open Loop Verification
2020
<p>The paper describes a procedure using the first principle modelling and experimental identification of the Magnetic Levitation Model CE 152. It is a modified version of the paper [1]. The difference is that the identification and verification is done in open loop and constraints logic is added in the current paper. The author optimized and simplified dynamic model to a minimum to what is needed to characterize given system for the simulation and control design purposes. Only few open-loop experiments are needed to estimate the unknown parameters. Model quality is verified in open loop where the real and simulated data are compared. The model can serve as a simulation model for some…
Control of freshwater fish louse Argulus coregoni: a step towards an integrated management strategy
2008
Harmful infections by ectoparasites of the genus Argulus occur repeatedly in freshwa- ter fish farming operations where the management has largely been ineffective. Preventative meth- ods and regular monitoring are rarely applied, so that chemical interventions become necessary. According to the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, a sustainable management or control program for a parasite should be based on knowledge of the ecology of the parasite along with adop- tion of several prevention and control methods, the application of which is dependent upon the pre- vailing infection level. The application of multiple management tactics is especially important because parasites can devel…
Observer-based sliding mode control for stabilization of a dynamic system with delayed output feedback
2013
Published version of an article in the journa: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/537414 Open Access This paper considers the sliding mode control problem for a kind of dynamic delay system. First by utilizing Lyapunov stability theory and a linear matrix inequality technique, an observer based on delayed output feedback is constructed. Then, an integral sliding surface is presented to realize the sliding mode control for the system with the more available stability condition. Finally, some numerical simulations are implemented to demonstrate the validity of the proposed control method.
