Differences in the behavior of advanced glycation end products and advanced oxidation protein products in patients with allergic rhinitis
2013
BACKGROUND: The presence of oxidative stress in patients with asthma is well documented; however, the role of oxidative stress in allergic rhinitis has received less attention, although it is likely to be similar to that observed in patients with asthma. Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) are compounds formed by the transformation of macromolecules, including proteins, which can serve as densitometric markers of oxidative stress and inflammation in several diseases. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the role of AGEs and AOPPs as new markers of oxidative stress and inflammation in patients affected by allergic rhinitis. ME…

Root rot of pea: characterization and biocontrol of the soil-borne disease complex including Aphanomyces euteiches
2018
Pea root rot is an increasing constraint in most of intensive pea cropping areas across the globe. The pathogenic complex responsible for the disease is composed of soil-borne fungal and oomycete pathogens such as Fusarium solani, F.oxysporum, F. avenaceum, F. culmorum, Rhizoctonia solani, Thielaviopsis basicola, Ascochyta pinodella, Pythium spp., Aphanomyces euteiches and probably others not yet identified. The diversity of their ecological and pathogenic properties can explain the worldwide dispersion of the disease and the absence of chemical, agricultural or genetic control tools. My research program aims at characterizing the parasitic consortium occurring in the North of France and at…
Expert control of DO in the aerobic reactor of an activated sludge process
2001
Abstract An expert control structure is proposed for the control of dissolved oxygen (DO) in a Nitrification Denitrification Biological Excess Phosphorus Removal (NDBEPR) plant to account for the several processes that are influenced by the DO concentration in the aerator. In the scheme a supervisory fuzzy controller determines the set point of an inner DO control loop where an Adaptive Robust Generic Model Control (ARGMC) controller is used. The fuzzy supervisory control has a hierarchical structure. Off-line measurements of biological parameters of influent and effluent streams can be used to periodically update the set points of the fuzzy controllers. The complete control scheme has been…
The approximate subdifferential of composite functions
1993
This paper deals with the approximate subdifferential chain rule in a Banach space. It establishes specific results when the real-valued function is locally Lipschitzian and the mapping is strongly compactly Lipschitzian.
Looking for the dichromatic version of a colour vision model
2004
Different hypotheses on the sensitivity of photoreceptors and post-receptoral mechanisms were introduced in different colour vision models to derive acceptable dichromatic versions. Models with one (Ingling and T'sou, Guth et al, Boynton) and two linear opponent stages (DeValois and DeValois) and with two non-linear opponent stages (ATD95) were used. The L- and M-cone sensitivities of red–green defectives were either set to zero (cone-loss hypothesis) or replaced by that of a different cone-type (cone-replacement hypothesis), whereas for tritanopes the S-cone sensitivity was always assumed to be zero. The opponent mechanisms were either left unchanged or nulled in one or in all the opponent…
Constrained control of a nonlinear two point boundary value problem, I
1994
In this paper we consider an optimal control problem for a nonlinear second order ordinary differential equation with integral constraints. A necessary optimality condition in form of the Pontryagin minimum principle is derived. The proof is based on McShane-variations of the optimal control, a thorough study of their behaviour in dependence of some denning parameters, a generalized Green formula for second order ordinary differential equations with measurable coefficients and certain tools of convex analysis.
Relating ions concentration variations to conductivity variations in a sequencing batch reactor operated for enhanced biological phosphorus removal
2006
In this paper a deterministic relationship between ionic conductivity and phosphorus concentration variations in an enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) process is established. Conductivity shows a strong correlation with phosphorus in both anaerobic and aerobic stages, increasing or decreasing when phosphorus is released or taken up, respectively. Since the end of these processes can be detected by examining the conductivity profile in a cycle, useful information on the EBPR performance and stability is available. This information can be used for adjusting the length of the anaerobic and aerobic stages. Therefore, online process control based on inexpensive and easy to maintain se…
Bézier Solutions of the Wave Equation
2004
We study polynomial solutions in the Bezier form of the wave equation in dimensions one and two. We explicitly determine which control points of the Bezier solution at two different times fix the solution.
Robust l2-gain control for 2D nonlinear stochastic systems with time-varying delays and actuator saturation
2013
Abstract This paper is concerned with the problems of stability analysis and l2-gain control for a class of two-dimensional (2D) nonlinear stochastic systems with time-varying delays and actuator saturation. Firstly, a convex hull representation is used to describe the saturation behavior, and a sufficient condition for the existence of mean-square exponential stability of the considered system is derived. Then, a state feedback controller which guarantees the resulting closed-loop system to be mean-square exponentially stable with l2-gain performance is proposed, and an optimization procedure to maximize the estimation of domain of attraction is also given. All the obtained results are for…
