Chemistry of Globigerinoides ruber shells from ODP Site 160-963
2013
Here we present a high-resolution faunal, floral and geochemical (stable isotopes and trace elements) record from the sediments of Ocean Drilling Program Site 963 (central Mediterranean basin), which shows centennial/millennial-scale resemblance to the high-northern latitude rapid temperature fluctuations documented in the Greenland ice cores between 20 and 70 kyr BP. Oxygen and carbon isotopes, planktic foraminifera and calcareous nannofossil distributions suggest that Dansgaard-Oeschger (D/O) and Heinrich events (HE) are distinctly expressed in the Mediterranean climate record. Moreover, recurrent though subdued oscillations not previously identified in the Lateglacial Mediterranean sedim…
(Table 1) Trace element/Ca ratios of Orbulina universa shells from late Neogene Mediterranean samples
2008
A Mediterranean composite sedimentary record was analyzed for Ba/Ca ratios on carbonate shells of Orbulina universa planktonic foraminifer (Ba/Ca)carb providing the opportunity to study and assess the extent of freshwater inputs on the basin and possible impacts on its dynamics during the Tortonian to Recent period. A number of scanning electron microscope analyses and auxiliary trace element measurements (Mn, Sr, and Mg), obtained from the same samples, exclude important diagenetic effects on the studied biogenic carbonates and corroborate the reliability of (Ba/Ca)carb ratios in foraminifera calcite as indicators of seawater source components during the studied interval. A long-term trend…
On "Coherence" and "Law": An Analysis of Different Models
2001
The aim of this paper is to compare different conceptions of the role of (normative) coherence in the legal field. More precisely, it aims to deepen Neil MacCormick's theory of legal reasoning, in which coherence is essentially considered an interpretative tool, and Ronald Dworkin's legal theory, in which coherence occupies a more crucial place. The main results of this paper can be summarized in two points. A) For Dworkin, coherence is not just an interpretative standard but constitutes the hard core of his theory of law. B) As a consequence of A, Dworkin's reflections on coherence (as an interpretative standard) cannot be separated from his theory of law grounded on the concept of integri…
Plausibilitat d?un ancestre comú entre les obres mitològiques de Joan Roís de Corella i les Transformacions de Francesc Alegre
2020
Between the Transformacions of Francesc Alegre (c.1452 - c.1508) and the mythological proses of Joan Roís de Corella some textual coincidences have been detected. Not without reservations, these coincidences have been explained as Corellas influence on Alegre. This is the most satisfactory explanation, given Alegre’s admiration and imitation of Corella’s prose, and Corella’s huge fame in the second half of the fifteenth century. However, Alegre knew earlier versions of Ovid’s Metamorphoses, such as that by Francesc de Pinós (1416-1475), or the anonymous Castilian version, both nowadays lost. And perhaps these versions were known by Corella too. The textual coincidences of these two authors …
Survival time and differences between dementia with Lewy bodies and Alzheimer’s disease following diagnosis: a meta-analysis of longitudinal studies.
2019
Objective: To synthesize the evidence across longitudinal studies comparing survival in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies comparing survival in clinically diagnosed DLB to AD. Longitudinal cohort studies were identified through a systematic search of major electronic databases from inception to May 2018. A random effects meta-analysis was performed to calculate survival time and relative risk of death. Results: Overall, 11 studies were identified including 22,952 patients with dementia: 2029 with DLB (mean diagnosis age 76.3; 47% female) compared with 20,923 with AD (mean diagnosis age 77.2; 6…
Yhteistyön mahdollisuudet – lukiokoulutukseen valmistava koulutus kielellistyvässä maailmassa
2018
Tassa tutkimuksessa selvitetaan sita, millaisia kasityksia rehtoreilla, opettajilla ja opiskelijoilla on vuorovaikutuksen mahdollistavasta toiminnasta eli yhteistyosta Lukiokoulutukseen valmistavan koulutuksen (LUVA) ja muun lukiotoiminnan valilla. Edellisen lisaksi tarkastellaan sita, ilmeneeko LUVA-koulutuksessa aineiston perusteella kielenoppimista tukevaa eri kielten limittaista kayttoa (engl. translanguaging ). Tutkimuksen teoreettinen tausta pohjautuu kielenoppimisen kayttopohjaiseen ajatteluun eli siihen, etta oppimisessa tarkeimpana nahdaan kielenkaytto ja vuorovaikutus. Taman artikkelin keskeinen teoreettinen kasite on translanguaging , joka nahdaan vastakohtana yksikielisyyden …
Towards new cultures of learning: Personal learning environments as a developmental perspective for improving higher education language courses
2015
AbstractThis article provides readers with an understanding of the concept of the personal learning environment (PLE). It suggests that PLEs can be used in two complementary ways: as a developmental lens for integrating ICT and creating new pedagogical practices and digital literacies for academic language learning, and as a context in which learners can practise and develop core skills such as digital literacies, team and knowledge work, and interactional skills – skills that are needed for success in today’s knowledge economy. The article places PLEs within the broader development related to the cultural changes brought on by the proliferation of Web 2.0 technologies – participation, team…
Reforming the national core curriculum for bilingual education in Finland
2016
This article explores the discourses surrounding the act of writing Section 10 Bilingual education in the new Finnish national core curriculum, which will be implemented in 2016. This section will set the parameters for programs that integrate language and content learning, where a minimum of two languages are used for instruction in content subjects. The main research questions discussed in this article are how and why certain discourses are expressed, or left unexpressed, in the final draft version of the curriculum. The data for qualitative analysis consists of participatory observations and minutes of meetings in the working group assembled for writing the draft.

Evidence against linkage of schizophrenia to chromosome 5q11-q13 markers in systematically ascertained families.
1992
Ten pedigrees systematically ascertained in Germany were tested for linkage to chromosome 5q11-q13. In order to replicate the previous report by Sherrington et al (1988), families with a bipolar family member were omitted from the lod score calculations, all diagnoses were based upon Research Diagnostic Criteria, and four different models of the affection status were calculated, including the model for which Sherrington et al calculated the highest lod scores. None of the families investigated showed a positive lod score. Using multipoint linkage analyses, we were able to exclude the region for which a positive linkage has been reported.
