Les procès d’Oscar Wilde de 1895 ont donné lieu à de multiples interprétations qui soulignent en particulier comment ils ont permis la cristallisation d’une identité gaie. Ils méritent également d’être mis en relation avec le texte de Wilde « The Soul of Man under Socialism » (1891) qui propose une subjectivité fondée sur l’individualisme et l’autonomie personnelle. The present paper aims at analyzing the unrest of the tribes located in the south of the province of Africa and of the reign of Mauretania, that escaped Roman authority. In particular, the research dwells on the hostilities undertaken by the Gaetulians under the principate of Augustus, such as to determine the intervention of the proconsul of Africa Cossus Cornelius Lentulus, given the magnitude of the bellum and in view of the fact that the king of Mauretania Juba II was unable to quell the con+ict. Until recently, Philodemus’ treatise On Household Management (Περὶ οἰκονομίας, PHerc. 1424) has been mainly used as a source for the reconstruction of early Epicurean economic thought (especially of Metrodorus’ writing Περὶ πλούτου). Over the past few years, however, scholars have called attention to Philodemus’ creative (yet philosophically orthodox) readaptation of Epicurean ethical and social theories to the needs of contemporary Roman society. Following this scholarly line, the present paper reassesses a passage from On Household Management (col.
