Abitare in estensione
2014

2023
Abstract: Products promoted as being made in France (MIF) are supposed to attract consumers and justify higher prices. Indeed, they maintain greater proximity to local consumers. We can therefore wonder whether greater spatial proximity, with products manufactured in the region or department of the consumer, would be associated with better reactions in terms of preference and willingness to pay (WTP), in particular in the case of non-food products not typical of the territories (less studied cases). Based on the literature on proximity and country of origin (COO) effects, three hypotheses are proposed and then tested using the conjoint measures method on a representative sample of the Frenc…
Market Entry and Priority of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Software Industry: An Empirical Analysis of Cultural Distance, Geographical Di…
2007
This paper investigates the influence of cultural distance, geographical distance, and three market size variables to the target country preference of SMEs in the software industry. In addition, we examine the shift of priorities in SMEs’ country selection by analyzing how these factors impact the selection of the first, second, and third target countries. Empirical findings of this study suggest that almost 70% of country choices can be explained by software market size and geographical distance alone. The findings adduced also that entry priority of SMEs shifts very fast from countries within a short geographical distance to countries with high purchasing power and within a greater geogra…
The Sense of Belonging to the Country: Integrative Relationships and Spatiotemporal Commitment
2020
The satisfaction of the need to belong reflects in the sense of being an integrative part of the group or social system. There is some lack of empirical evidence for the structure of this sense at the macro level. This study assessed a two-dimensional model of the sense of belonging to the country, which included relational and spatiotemporal components. Participants were 539 university students from 18 to 50 (74% females). Questions regarding involvement, perceived acceptance, sense of commonality, and feeling at home represented the relational component of the sense of belonging. Four temporal categories—the recent past, present, and the near and distant future—were included in the assess…
Economic geography and growth: recent advances and new results
1997
Two fields of economic theory have developed recently in parallel: on the one hand, economic geography aims to explain the formation of a heterogeneous space, i.e.how the agglomeration of households and firms determines differentiated regions, urban structures or urban systems; on the other hand, theories of endogenous growth propose new views on growth mechanisms which invalidate the traditional convergence rule. Thesetheories are based on common foundations such as increasing returns, spatial externalities and monopolistic competition. We examine here in some detail how the spatial dimension is implicit in endogenous growth theories. We emphasize the whys and wherefores of the combination…
Urban economics and endogenous dynamics in regional growth
1995
