Supporting-Electrolyte-Free and Scalable Flow Process for the Electrochemical Synthesis of 3,3′,5,5′-Tetramethyl-2,2′-biphenol
2020
The most efficient electrochemical synthesis of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethyl-2,2′-biphenol by dehydrogenative coupling is reported. The electrolysis is performed supporting-electrolyte-free in 1,1,1,3,3,3...
Reaction Condition Screening by Using Electrochemical Microreactor: Application to Anodic Phenol-arene C,C Cross-Coupling Reaction in High Acceptor N…
2013
The anodic phenol-arene C,C cross-coupling reaction was achieved in inexpensive and sustainable media such as methanol, acetic acid, and formic acid by using an electrochemical microreactor which can provide a better performance to screen reaction conditions than in standard beaker-type electrolysis cells. Especially, formic acid as a reaction medium showed good performance. The total amount of cross-coupling product and homo-coupling products as a by-product was clearly increased as the solvent acceptor number increased. To control the selective oxidation of phenol, addition of methanol was effective.
ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis of meta-Terphenyl-2,2′′-diols by Anodic C-C Cross-Coupling Reactions.
2016
The anodic C−C cross-coupling reaction is a versatile synthetic approach to symmetric and non-symmetric biphenols and arylated phenols. We herein present a metal-free electrosynthetic method that provides access to symmetric and non-symmetric meta-terphenyl-2,2′′-diols in good yields and high selectivity. Symmetric derivatives can be obtained by direct electrolysis in an undivided cell. The synthesis of non-symmetric meta-terphenyl-2,2′′-diols required two electrochemical steps. The reactions are easy to conduct and scalable. The method also features a broad substrate scope, and a large variety of functional groups are tolerated. The target molecules may serve as [OCO]3− pincer ligands.
A Novel Technique for Deembeding the Unloaded Resonance Frequency from Measurements of Microwave Cavities
2006
[EN] A novel technique to extract the influence of coupling networks on the resonant frequency of cavities in one-port measurements is presented. The determination of the unloaded resonant frequency is performed directly from measurements without either the need to obtain the electromagnetic fields in the resonator or to deembed the delay of transmission lines from the measuring equipment to the resonator. The importance of the Foster's form on the modeling of the frequency detuning of the resonators is also discussed and a criterion for the choice of the appropriate Foster's form is suggested. The procedure is validated with simulations and experimental measurements of manufactured cavities
A new empirical method for extracting unloaded resonant frequencies from microwave resonant cavities
2003
Equivalent circuits traditionally used to model resonators and coupling networks in the vicinity of a resonance provide values of unloaded resonant frequencies which usually do not agree with experimental results. A new empirical method for the extraction of influence of coupling networks on resonant cavities is presented. The characterization of coupling structures is performed directly from measurements without the need of obtaining the electromagnetic fields inside the cavity, which is very interesting from a practical point of view. Results are validated with simulations and experimental measurements. The accuracy of some cavity applications, such as dielectric characterization techniqu…
Layer-wise and equivalent single layer models for smart multilayered plates
2014
Layer-wise and equivalent single layer plate models for magneto-electro-elastic multiphysics laminates are presented in a unified framework. They are based on variable kinematics and quasi-static behavior of the electromagnetic fields. The electromagnetic state of each single layer is preliminary determined by solving the corresponding governing equations coupled with the proper interface continuity and external boundary conditions. By so doing, the electromagnetic state is condensed into the plate kinematics and the layer governing equations are inferred by the principle of virtual displacements. This approach identifies effective mechanical layers, which are kinematically equivalent to th…
Coherent axion-photon transformations in the forward scattering on atoms
2018
In certain laboratory experiments the production and/or detection of axions is due to the photon-axion transformations in a strong magnetic field. This process is coherent, and the rate of the transformation is proportional to the length $l$ and magnitude $B$ of the magnetic field squared, $\sim l^2B^2$. In the present paper, we consider coherent production of axions due to the forward scattering of photons on atoms or molecules. This process may be represented as being due to an effective electromagnetic field which converts photons to axions. We present analytical expressions for such effective magnetic and electric fields induced by resonant atomic M0 and M1 transitions, as well as give …
Exactly solvable model of two three-dimensional harmonic oscillators interacting with the quantum electromagnetic field: The far-zone Casimir-Polder …
2005
We consider two three-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillators interacting with the quantum electromagnetic field in the Coulomb gauge and within dipole approximation. Using a Bogoliubov-like transformation, we can obtain transformed operators such that the Hamiltonian of the system, when expressed in terms of these operators, assumes a diagonal form. We are also able to obtain an expression for the energy shift of the ground state, which is valid at all orders in the coupling constant. From this energy shift the nonperturbative Casimir-Polder potential energy between the two oscillators can be obtained. When approximated to the fourth order in the electric charge, the well-known expressi…
On the repeatability of the EMI for the monitoring of bonded joints
2015
We study the feasibility and the repeatability of the electromechanical impedance (EMI) method for the health monitoring of lightweight bonded joints. The EMI technique exploits the coupling between the displacement field and the potential field of a piezoelectric material, by attaching or embedding a piezoelectric transducer to the structure to be monitored. The sensor is excited by an external voltage and the electrical admittance which is the ratio between the electric current and the applied voltage is measured as it depends on the mechanical coupling between the transducer and the host structure. Owing to this interaction, the admittance may represent a signature for the health of the …
