Abstract: This paper aims at exploring the meaning of Sci-Fi within the very field of the so-called Law and Cinema. With this purpose, the author describes the issues raised when defining the concept of Sci-Fi. This first step is needed before analysing how and to what extent Sci-Fi can foster legal, moral and political debate and criticism.…

Gli avantesti delle opere abbandonate. Georges Perec e la disseminazione dei fantasmi del romanzo

2022

The abandoned work is a form of voluntary incompletion because the interruption of the writing process is decided by the author himself. Abandonment is preceded by considerations and traces that make the process intelligible, especially when identified in avant-textual documents in which the author often not only plans the construction of the text but also reasons about it by tracing the criticalities that condition its progress. The article aims to reflect on some aspects of Georges Perec's abandoned works, showing how these are integrated within the completed works through the processes of dissemination and proliferation.

Adult Education in Art Galleries

2016

Since I began researching adult education in art galleries 20 years ago in Europe, I have noticed two conflicting trends. Contemporary art has become more extraverted and socially engaged, whilst lifelong learning, the discourse of neoliberalism that informs most policy, has become increasingly focused on providing learners with predefined competencies and pushed for ‘measurable’ results (e.g. Pedersen, 2014; Illeris, 2015).

Increased accessibility of semantic concepts after (more or less) subtle activation of related concepts: support for the basic tenet of priming resea…

2019

Increasingly remote concepts and behaviors have been primed, which have come under increasing criticism. In this present experiment, we take a step back and try to strengthen the roots of priming research. In this experiment, we systematically varied the activation or priming of a concept in six experiments (

Expressed and Perceived Criticism, Family Warmth, and Symptoms in Schizophrenia

2013

AbstractCriticism directed by caregivers towards a family member with schizophrenia, both from the perspective of the patient and of the caregiver, predicts relapse, although both perspectives differ. This study aims to verify if the same applies to a Mediterranean sample, where criticism is not the main attitude of high expressed emotion families. The Camberwell Family Interview was applied to assess the family’s perspective, and the Perceived Criticism and the Family Emotional Involvement and Criticism Scales were used to assess the patients’ perspective, in 21 dyads. The association between both perspectives and psychotic symptoms was also examined. Results replicated those of previous s…

Philosophical problems in the theory of non-place: Marc Augé

2015

In recent decades, the theory of non-places has gained a wide recognition and esteem in the global journals. It is originally oriented to discuss the negative effects of postmodernism or hyper-mobilities in the real world. It was coined by French ethnologist Marc Auge. Although illustrative and pungent, Auge's argument should be seriously revisited. To what an extent a place can be called a non-place?, what are the specific condition for the non-places production? Auge explains his model respecting to three indicators, identity, conflict and tradition. Not only, our own fieldwork validated the belief that airports are spaces of conflict and identity, but we found serious ethical limitations…
