Exposure of the Croatian adult population to acrylamide through bread and bakery products

2019

The aim of the present study was to determine and compare the levels of acrylamide in different types of bread and bakery products using a LC– MS/MS method, before and after the new European regulation on acrylamide reduction (Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/2158) became valid. Also, one of the aim was to estimate the average exposure to acrylamide through this food category. Of the total of 100 analysed samples, acrylamide content ranged from below the limit of quantification (LOQ) to 237 μg/kg in the period before the application of a new European Regulation, and from <LOQ to 42 μg/kg after it's application. For the adult Croatian population the dietary mean exposure to acrylamide in brea…

Pomiędzy jawą a snem. Motyw piękna i przemocy w "Krystalicznej sieci" Mirko Kovača

2012

The narrator of Crystal Gates who is the protagonist of the novel too is making areconstruction of his youth and the artistic life in Belgrade of the 1960s. As he said, he has seen the past “in the lucid intervals” and dreams are really important in the story. They are usually connected with the real life and sometimes they are a kind of vision. The most important themes of the novel are beauty and violence. They are still related to each other, because they are two points of human life in general. The narrator is abudding writer, earning his living by trading in works of art and moving in artistic circle. On the other hand, he gets into touch with the exponents of new authorities (communis…

High-Density Genomic Characterization of Native Croatian Sheep Breeds

2022

A recent comprehensive genomic analysis based on 50K SNP profiles has shown that the regional Balkan sheep populations have considerable genetic overlap but are distinctly different from surrounding breeds. All eight Croatian sheep breeds were represented by a small number of individuals per breed. Here, we genotyped 220 individuals representing the native Croatian sheep breeds (Istrian Sheep, Krk Island Sheep, Cres Island Sheep, Rab Island Sheep, Lika Pramenka, Pag Island Sheep, Dalmatian Pramenka, Dubrovnik Sheep) and mouflon using the Ovine Infinium® HD SNP BeadChip (606,006 SNPs). In addition, we included publicly available Balkan Pramenka and other Mediterranean sheep breeds. Our analy…

Pamięci nieukojone. Wokół upamiętniania ofiar w Serbii i Chorwacji (Jasenovac, Bleiburg i belgradzkie Sajmište)

2016

Memory in action – Performative practices in a dispute about the past: Serbia and Croatia at the turn of the 20th and 21st century

2019

Memory in action – Performative practices in a dispute about the past: Serbia and Croatia at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuryThe article is an attempt to combine in one reflection the elements of two directions of critical thinking: discursive and performative. The starting point of the analysis is the assumption (derived from beliefs common in pre-performative times) that every space (including a city’s territory) can be treated as a text. This means that both static artifacts and activities in a given space communicate a certain message and can be seen as signs or symbols that refer to something outside of them. Our reflection focuses on practices in which the performative potential …

The Saving Narratives of Daša Drndić

2018

The starting point for this paper is the assumption that by obsessive revisiting the events of World War II, the Croatian writer Dasa Drndic attempts to influence indirectly the present. It parallels her narrators’ declarations who—with a great dose of probability—can be simultaneously read as her alter egos. Hence, the article investigates and describes the strategy whose main aim is to retain memory about the past. In Drndic’s texts this function is achieved through the acts of archiving, writing down, and grouping. These acts constitute non-standard ways to enhance the literary text with, for example, whole pages filled with the victims’ names (integrated within the text or acting as a p…

Attempt on the Life of the King Alexander I in Marseille – Circumstances – Organizers – Consequences. Analysis of the Problem

2018

The main goal of this paper is to present the circumstances of an attempt on the life of the King Alexander I Karađorđevic, who was killed by terrorists from Macedonian organization VMRO in 1934, during his official visit in France. The author indicated that many researchers were focused mainly on the following questions: who were the organizers and co-organizers of the assassination attempt? What was the goal of terrorists: assassination of the King of Yugoslavia or assassination of Louis Barthou, minister of foreign affairs of France? On the other hand, the author of this paper presented a thesis that the attack in Marseille was unquestionably a terrorist act of combined forces of Croatia…

The Italian “National Opera” Imagined from a Southern Slavic Viewpoint: Franjo Ks. Kuhač and Josip Mandić

2019

The national awakening after the revolutions of 1848, and the related phenomenon of new operatic grammar disseminated from Russia and Bohemia to other countries of Central Europe, were the main factors in promoting a quest of musical autonomy either in Slovenia or in Croatia. In the light of the Southern Slavic people revival, the criticisms on the Italian opera and the Wagnerian Musikdrama, written by the prominent musicologist Franjo Kuhač (1834-1911), and the composer Josip Mandić (1883-1959), reveal two parallel points of view, which have not been taken into account until today. The negative judgement of Kuhač on the last works of Verdi, influenced by Wagner formulae, and the praise of …
