Gratitude Questionnaire–20 Items (G20): A Cross-Cultural, Psychometric and Crowdsourcing Analysis

2020

The use in psychology of crowdsourcing platforms as a method of data collection has been increasing in popularity because of its relative ease and versatility. Our goal is to adapt the Gratitude Questionnaire–20 Items (G20) to the English language by using data collected through a crowdsourcing platform. The G20 is a comprehensive instrument that takes in consideration the different basic processes of gratitude and assesses the construct’s cognitive, evaluative, emotional, and behavioral processes. We test the psychometric properties of the English version of the G20 with a Prolific (ProA) user sample. We assess the adequacy of the G20 for the crowdsourcing population in its English version…

A simulation of disagreement for control of rational cheating in peer review

2013

Understanding the peer review process could help research and shed light on the mechanisms that underlie crowdsourcing. In this paper, we present an agent-based model of peer review built on three entities - the paper, the scientist and the conference. The system is implemented on a BDI platform (Jason) that allows to define a rich model of scoring, evaluating and selecting papers for conferences. Then, we propose a programme committee update mechanism based on disagreement control that is able to remove reviewers applying a strategy aimed to prevent papers better than their own to be accepted (rational cheating). We analyze a homogeneous scenario, where all conferences aim to the same leve…

Brima: Low-Overhead Browser-Only Image Annotation Tool (Preprint)

2021

Image annotation and large annotated datasets are crucial parts within the Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence this http URL the same time, it is well-known and acknowledged by the research community that the image annotation process is challenging, time-consuming and hard to scale. Therefore, the researchers and practitioners are always seeking ways to perform the annotations easier, faster, and at higher quality. Even though several widely used tools exist and the tools' landscape evolved considerably, most of the tools still require intricate technical setups and high levels of technical savviness from its operators and crowdsource contributors. In order to address such challenge…

El Contrato De Trabajo En El S. XXI: La Economma Colaborativa, On-Demand Economy, Crowdsorcing, Uber Economy Y Otras Formas De Descentralizaciin Prod…

2015

Transcribing the "Estoria de Espanna" using crowdsourcing: Strategies and aspirations

2015

This paper examines the specific strategies for recruitment and retention of volunteer transcribers in use in two collaborative transcription projects: Transcribe Bentham (University College, London) and the Estoria de Espanna Digital Project (University of Birmingham). The aim of the paper is to review the strategies used by Transcribe Bentham, a more mature crowdsourced electronic transcription project, with a view to informing the strategies put into place in the Estoria project, which has started transcribing using crowdsourcing more recently. The paper discusses the difficulties faced by crowdsourced electronic transcription projects and how these have been and are being resolved in th…

Translating Migration in the Visual Arts: Calais Children and Project#RefugeeCameras as Collaborative Counter Narratives

2019

This study investigates the modalities through which the migrant crisis is portrayed in the creative artistic sector while accelerating the spread of political participatory and activist movements in the areas of subtitling and amateur translation. Participation and activism have stimulated the sphere of translation that has been acting as an important stimulus for the international mushrooming of artistic creativities on public spaces and digital platforms, and also for a different political and cultural reframing of the migrant crisis. 21 st -century mobility has made translation a crucial device for the negotiation of linguacultural transactions within cultural institutions, public space…

openSNP–A Crowdsourced Web Resource for Personal Genomics

2014

Genome-Wide Association Studies are widely used to correlate phenotypic traits with genetic variants. These studies usually compare the genetic variation between two groups to single out certain Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) that are linked to a phenotypic variation in one of the groups. However, it is necessary to have a large enough sample size to find statistically significant correlations. Direct-To-Consumer (DTC) genetic testing can supply additional data: DTC-companies offer the analysis of a large amount of SNPs for an individual at low cost without the need to consult a physician or geneticist. Over 100,000 people have already been genotyped through Direct-To-Consumer genet…

Spēļu elementu(gamification)un kolektīvās inteliģences (crowdsourcing) izmantošana mārketingā, to pielietošanas iespējas Latvijā

2015

Jura Baldunčika maģistra darba „Spēļu elementu (gamification) un kolektīvās inteliģences (crowdsourcing) izmantošana mārketingā, to pielietošanas iespējas Latvijā” mērķis ir izpētīt gamification un crowdsourcing instrumentāriju, un to pielietošanas iespējas Latvijā no infrastruktūras, speciālistu un patērētāju perspektīvām. Darba teorētiskajā daļā autors pētījis un sintezējis gamification un crowdsourcing izmantošanai nepieciešamo zināšanu platformu balstoties gan uz jaunākajiem zinātnieku pētījumiem un zinātnisko literatūru, gan praksē ieviestiem piemēriem. Pētījuma otrajā daļā veikta pētījuma priekšmeta – interneta infrastruktūras un tā lietotāju analīze. Darba pēdējā daļā analizēta šo pi…

Towards identifying drug side effects from social media using active learning and crowd sourcing.

2019

Motivation Social media is a largely untapped source of information on side effects of drugs. Twitter in particular is widely used to report on everyday events and personal ailments. However, labeling this noisy data is a difficult problem because labeled training data is sparse and automatic labeling is error-prone. Crowd sourcing can help in such a scenario to obtain more reliable labels, but is expensive in comparison because workers have to be paid. To remedy this, semi-supervised active learning may reduce the number of labeled data needed and focus the manual labeling process on important information. Results We extracted data from Twitter using the public API. We subsequently use Ama…
