Optimal calculation of the pair correlation function for an orthorhombic system

2012

We present a new computational method to calculate arbitrary pair correlation functions of an orthorombic system in the most efficient way. The algorithm is demonstrated by the calculation of the radial distribution function of shock compressed liquid hydrogen.

Study of solid state kinetics using voltammetry of immobilized particles. Application to tetragonal to monoclinic transition in nanoparticulate zirco…

2012

Abstract The voltammetry of immobilized particles methodology is applied to study solid state reaction kinetics on the basis of the electrocatalytic ability of solids toward selected electrochemical processes. Measurement of the time variation of catalytic current for oxygen evolution reaction in aqueous alkaline media provides a direct estimate of fractional conversion of the reactant in the course of the reaction for testing different reaction kinetic models. This methodology is applied to analyze the formation of monoclinic zirconia and praseodymia-doped zirconia from tetragonal precursors. Discrimination between competing and successive reactions mechanisms is obtained for reactions inv…

2006

Abstract Three spiro[pyrrolidine-2,3′-oxindoles], 1,1′,2,2′,5′,6′,7′,7′a-octahydro-2-oxo-1′-phenyl-spiro[3H-indole-3,3′-[3H]-pyrrolizine]-2′-carboxylic acid methyl ester (1), 1,1′,2,2′,5′,6′,7′,7′a-octahydro-2-oxo-1′-nitro-2′-phenyl-spiro[3H-indole-3, 3′-[3H]-pyrrolizine] (2) and 1,1′,2,2′,5′,6′,7′,7′a-octahydro-2-oxo-1′-nitro-2′-(4″-chlorophenyl)-spiro[3H-indole-3,3′-[3H]-pyrrolizine] (3) have been synthesized and their 1H, 13C and 15N spectra assigned. The chemical shift assignments are based on Pulsed Field Gradient (PFG) Double Quantum Filter (DQF) 1H, 1H correlation spectroscopy (COSY), PFG 1H, 13C Heteronuclear Multiple Quantum Coherence (HMQC) and PFG 1H,X (X = 13C and 15N) Heteronuc…

Probing the Multiple Structures of Vaterite through Combined Computational and Experimental Raman Spectroscopy.

2014

First-principles Raman spectra have been computed for several new vaterite structural models that have been recently proposed, and compared with spectra recorded on a set of biogenic, geological and synthetic samples. This set includes new measurements collected on Herdamania momus spicules (Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia), which are known to have purity and crystallinity that are higher than for other biogenic samples. Overall, due to the close structural connection between the various models, the computed Raman spectra are found to be broadly similar. However, the spectra obtained for the two most stable models (monoclinic C2 and trigonal P3221, corresponding to two different p…

Studies of structures and properties of polymeric systems containing bis-(hydroxy-arylidene)alkanones as NLO-active chromophores

2002

Abstract NLO-properties of polymer systems containing bis-(hydroxy-arylidene)alkanone chromophores were studied experimentally and analyzed using ab initio quantum chemical calculations. A monoclinic crystal structure (space group P2111) of the polyester containing fragments of such chromophores in the backbone was simulated and a reasonable agreement between the experimental and simulated X-ray powder diffraction patterns was achieved. Ab initio quantum-mechanical estimations of the SHG-observable macroscopic second-order non-linearity tensor coefficients, obtained for the polymer crystal structure at the HF SCF level, led to the major dXZZ-coefficient of 1.9 pm/V. Films of ionic complexes…

BacSr1−cTiO3 perovskite solid solutions: Thermodynamics from ab initio electronic structure calculations

2005

We suggest theoretical prediction for Ba"cSr"1"-"cTiO"3 perovskite solid solutions (BST) combining ab initio DFT/B3PW calculations and alloy thermodynamics. This approach is based on calculations of a series of ordered super-structures in Ba-Sr simple cubic sublattice immersed in the rest TiO"3 matrix. Although these structures are unstable with respect to the decomposition, the results of total energy calculations allow us to extract the necessary energy parameters and to calculate the phase diagram for the solid solutions (alloys). A novel approach applied to the BST system enables to predict that at T>400 K Ba and Sr atom distribution is random. But below this temperature at small c Ba a…

Ab initio study of the electronic and atomic structure of the wolframite-type ZnWO4

2009

Abstract Ab initio quantum chemistry calculations of the structural and electronic properties of monoclinic wolframite-type ZnWO 4 crystal have been performed within the periodic linear combination of atomic orbitals (LCAO) method using six different Hamiltonians, based on density functional theory (DFT) and hybrid Hartree-Fock-DFT theory. The obtained results for optimized structural parameters, band gap and partial density of states are compared with available experimental data, and the best agreement is observed for hybrid Hamiltonians. The calculations show that zinc tungstate is a wide band gap material, with the direct gap about 4.6 eV, whose valence band has largely O 2p character, w…

Chlorodicyclopentadienyloxoniobium(V) complexes revisited: The origin of the asymmetry in the 1H- and 13C-NMR spectra, X-ray crystal structures and a…

2000

Abstract 1H- and 13C-NMR spectra of chlorodicyclopentadienyloxoniobium(V) complex I and its four 1,1′-dialkyl substituted derivatives II–V have been recorded and assigned based on DQF 1H,1H-COSY and PFG 1H,13C-HMQC and HMBC experiments. Non-equivalences of all cyclopentadienyl protons and carbons in II–V (as reflected by their different 1H- and 13C-NMR chemical shifts) are explained by synchronous and out-of-phase rotations of the substituted cyclopentadienyl rings. A non-equivalence of the methyls in III (1,1′-di-isopropyl) is explained by a detailed inspection of the rotamers of the isopropyl groups. The X-ray structural data show that III and IV (1-methyl-1′-tert-butyl) crystallize in th…

Comparison of epimeric methyl lithocholate and methyl iso-lithocholate molecules: single crystal X-ray structure of methyl lithocholate, ab initio HF…

2003

Abstract 13 C NMR chemical shifts have been measured and assigned for epimeric methyl 3α/β-hydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oates (methyl lithocholate [3α-OH epimer] and methyl iso-lithocholate [3β-OH epimer]). Their molecular dynamics simulations suggest that for both epimers there exists two predominant gas phase conformations, which have been further forwarded for ab initio/HF optimizations and DFT/GIAO based 13 C NMR chemical shift calculations. Excellent linear relationships have been observed between experimental and calculated 13 C NMR chemical shifts for both epimers. For methyl lithocholate (MeLC), the other minimum energy conformation equates very well with the single crystal X-ray structure …
