Assessment of cross-flow filtration as microalgae harvesting technique prior to anaerobic digestion: Evaluation of biomass integrity and energy demand
2018
[EN] In the present study, the effect of cross-flow filtration (CFF) on the overall valorization of Chlorella spp. microalgae as biogas was assessed. The effect of CFF on microalgae cell integrity was quantified in terms of viability which was correlated with the anaerobic biodegradability. The viability dropped as the biomass concentration increased, whereas anaerobic biodegradability increased linearly with the viability reduction. It was hypothesized that a stress-induced release and further accumulation of organic polymers during CFF increased the flux resistance which promoted harsher shear-stress conditions. Furthermore, the volume reduction as the concentration increased entailed an …
Agri-Food Markets towards Sustainable Patterns
2020
In recent decades, the confluence of different global and domestic drivers has led to progressive and unpredictable changes in the functioning and structure of agri-food markets worldwide. Given the unsustainability of the current agri-food production, processing, distribution and consumption patterns, and the inadequate governance of the whole food system, the transition to sustainable agriculture and food systems has become crucial to effectively manage a global agri-food market able in supporting expected population growth and ensuring universal access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food for all. Based on a critical review of the existing international literature, the paper seeks to…
The internationalisation of the Spanish food industry: the home market effect and European market integration
2015
<p>The objective of this study was to analyse, from a long-term perspective, the factors determining the process of the internationalisation of the Spanish agrifood industry. The paper concentrates on the empirical verification of the existence of a home market effect in the food and drink industries in Spain and on the effects on trade flows of integration into the European Union. With this aim in mind, we took into account the latest contributions to the estimation of the gravity equation for a sample of export flows from 13 agrifood subsectors between 1970 and 2012, with a destination of 175 markets. From the results of the study the existence of the “home market effect” stands out…

Evaluating Multidimensional Prices in the Bundling Context
1999
Leasing offers, such as “... Jaguar XJ6 3.2, ..., down payment DM 22,325, DM 999 per month, 36 monthly installments...” or “... Audi A4 Avant, ..., down payment DM 15,000, DM 157 per month, repayment period 36 months, residual payment DM 5,000 ...”, have made regular appearances in advertisements for several years now. That offers of this kind are accepted by buyers of automobiles is confirmed by the leasing figures for German automobile manufacturers. Since the early 1990s, between 10% and 28% of all new automobiles have been sold under a leasing agreement, depending on the maker and the model series. The average leasing share for the automobile sector was approximately 23% in Germany in 1…
Operating leverage and the cost of debt in European agri-food firms
2020
Aim of study: To analyse the effect that operating leverage exerts on the cost of debt of agri-food firms in Europe, both in isolation and indirectly through its other risk factors.Area of study: We used panel data made up of 18,360 European firms from 2009 to 2016 (146,880 observations).Material and methods: The data were extracted from the ORBIS database and EUROSTAT. The econometric approach was estimated by the Generalized Method of Moments.Main results: The results obtained confirm that operating leverage or cost structure, in addition to affecting the cost of debt, also affects the relationship between that cost and other sources of risk. More specifically, indebtedness, size, specifi…
Zarządzanie funkcją środowiskową w rolnictwie - źródło nowych rent gospodarstw rolnych
2016
W opracowaniu przedstawiono rolę polityki ekologicznej w definiowaniu obecnego etapu modernizacji gospodarstw rolnych, mechanizmy jej integracji z celami WPR do 2020 r. oraz strategią Europa 2020. Ustalenia te stanow…
