Three copper(II) complexes [Cu(L1)(μ1,5-dca)]n (1), [Cu(L2)(μ1,5-dca)]n (2) and [Cu(L3)(μ1,5-dca)]n (3) [where HL1 = (1-(2-(dimethylamino)ethylimino)ethyl) naphthalene-1-ol, HL2 = (1-(2-(methylamino)ethylimino)ethyl) naphthalene-1-ol and HL3 = (1-(2-(ethylamino)ethylimino)ethyl)naphthalene-1-ol] have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The structure of each complex has been confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. In all three complexes, copper(II) centres are bridged by dicyanamide in end to end fashion. The structure of the title compound is similar to that of the related complexes [Co(C12H8N4S)2(N3)2] and [Ni(C12H8N4S)2(N3)2] in which the azide ion is substituted by the thiocyanate group. The CuN4S2 octahedron is more distorted than the CoN6 and NiN6 octahedra.

The title compound, {(C9H11N2)[Mn(NCS)3]} n , has been obtained as a side product of the salt metathesis reaction of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide, (EMIm)Br, and K2[Mn(NCS)4]. The structure consists of discrete 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium cations and an anionic two-dimensional network of manganese(II)-based complex anions, interconnected by thiocyanate ions. Every Mn2+ ion is coordinated by three S atoms of three NCS− ions and three N atoms of further three NCS− ions in a meridional octahedral fashion.

Thiourea Based Tritopic Halogen Bonding Acceptors

Series of thiourea based tritopic receptor molecules were synthesized to be used as building blocks for halogen-bonded assemblies. Here 16 new receptor molecules were synthesized from two different 2,4,6-trialkyl-1,3,5-tris(bromomethyl)benzene starting materials via tris(isothiocyanatomethyl)benzene intermediates. The alkyl substituents in the benzene ring showed to be important for isothiocyanate group formation instead of competing thiocyanate group. El deterioro de los alimentos causado por los hongos que producen micotoxinas representa un problema importante en seguridad alimentaria. Los cereales en grano y sus productos derivados, como el pan, frecuentemente están contaminados con hongos micotoxigénicos. Es por ello que en la presente Tesis Doctoral se han estudiado la presencia de 17 micotoxinas en 80 muestras de pan de molde y el riesgo de exposición de la población a estos compuestos. The reaction of 2-methylpiperazine with the thiocyanate ligand and two transition metals leads to the production of two new isomorphous [ML2SCN4] where L is the 2-methylpiperazine and [M =Co (1), and Ni (2)], presenting an octahedral configuration. These compounds were characterized by single crystal X-ray crystallography, TG-DTA analysis, as well as infrared and UV-Vis spectroscopy and TG-DTA. Diabetes, apart from generalized neuropathy and microangiopathy, involves tissue hypoxia, which may drive chronic proinflammatory state. However, studies on the ventilatory control in diabetes are sparse and conflicting. In this study we examined the function and morphology of diabetic carotid bodies (CBs). Diabetes was evoked in Wistar rats with streptozotocin (70 mg/kg, i.p.). The acute hypoxic ventilatory responses (HVR) to 12 and 8 % O(2) were investigated in conscious untreated rats after 2 and 4 weeks in a plethysmographic chamber. Recent studies have established the clinical efficacy of S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe) in the treatment of cholestasis associated with hepatic diseases, pregnancy and the administration of estrogen-containing oral contraceptives. In 4 clinical trials involving a total of 639 patients with cholestasis due to acute or chronic liver disease, SAMe in an intravenous dose of 800 mg/day or an oral regimen of 1.6 g/day for 2 weeks was superior to placebo in relieving the symptom of pruritus and in restoring serum total bilirubin and serum alkaline phosphatase towards normal.
