High-speed and high-resolution interrogation of FBG sensors using wavelength-to-time mapping and Gaussian filters

2019

In this work we report a novel intensity-based technique for simultaneous high-speed and high-resolution interrogation of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. The method uses a couple of intensity Gaussian filters and the dispersion-induced wavelength-to-time mapping effect. The Bragg wavelength is retrieved by means of the amplitude comparison between the two filtered grating spectrums, which are mapped into a time-domain waveform. In this way, measurement distortions arising from residual power due to the grating sidelobes are completely avoided, and the wavelength measurement range is considerably extended with respect to the previously proposed schemes. We present the mathematical backgro…

(Strept)avidin as host for biotinylated coordination complexes: stability, chiral discrimination, and cooperativity

2005

Incorporation of a biotinylated ruthenium tris(bipyridine) [Ru(bpy)₂(Biot-bpy)]²⁺ (1) in either avidin or streptavidin-(strept)avidin-can be conveniently followed by circular dichroism spectroscopy. To determine the stepwise association constants, cooperativity, and chiral discrimination properties, diastereopure (Λ and δ)-1 species were synthesized and incorporated in tetrameric (strept)avidin to afford (δ-[Ru(bpy)₂(Biot-bpy)]²⁺)x⊂avidin, (Λ- [Ru(bpy)₂(Biot-bpy)]²⁺)x⊂avidin, (δ-[Ru(bpy)₂(Biot- bpy)]²⁺)x⊂streptavidin, and (Λ-[Ru(bpy)₂(Biot-bpy)]²⁺) x⊂streptavidin (x = 1-4) For these four systems, the overall stability constants are log β₄ = 28.6, 30.3, 36.2, and 36.4, respectively.

Evidence that C1q, a Subcomponent of the First Component of Complement, is an Fc Receptor of Peritoneal and Alveolar Macrophages

1980

Abstract Guinea pig peritoneal macrophages were cultured for 24 h in the presence of two inhibitors of the biosynthesis of collagen-like molecules such as C1q : 10 -3 M 3,4-dehydroproline or 10 -4 M 2,2′-dipyridyl. Their Fc-receptor activity was measured by rosette formation, using sheep erythrocytes (E) coated with rabbit anti-sheep IgG (EA IgG ). The Fc-receptor activity was decreased by 40 to 70% of control cultures depending on the amount of IgG on the E. The activity of a second receptor on the macrophages, mediating the binding of C3b coated E, was not altered by this treatment. Rat alveolar macrophages were depleted of their Fc-receptor activity by pronase treatment (1.5 mg/ml) in th…

Synthesis and copper-mediated nuclease activity of a tetracationic tris(2,2′-bipyridine) ligand

2009

Abstract We report herein the synthesis of a novel tetracationic tris(2,2′-bipyridine) ligand 4 . We show that this ligand metalated with copper(II), and in the presence of ascorbate as a reducing agent, strongly damages pUC18 plasmid DNA. Copper complex formation was demonstrated by ESI-MS (electrospray ionization-mass spectrum) at a 1:3 ligand to metal ratio. Binding of both 4 and its copper(II) complex to CT-DNA (calf thymus DNA) was characterized by viscosimetry, thermal denaturation and fluorescence-based competition assays. The viscosimetric data indicated that 4 and its copper(II) complex bind DNA through partial intercalation and thermal denaturation studies revealed a significant i…

Contra la patologización intensiva en términos de derechos humanos: Activismo gordo en Argentina

2020

This work addresses the way in which Argentine Fat Activism has developed, in recent years, the demand for depathologization of fatness, taking elements from critical discourses on the health of fat people to frame them in a perspective typical of the Human Rights. First, the contemporary fat body is described in terms of stigma and discrimination, especially in the health field. Then, they refer to a series of critical positions on the pathologization and medicalization of fatness from the biomedical perspective, Fat Studies and Fat Activism. Lastly, a series of interventions that the Argentine activist collective Taller Hacer la Vista Gorda produced between 2017 and 2020 were considered, …

DNA Oxidation Photoinduced by Norharmane Rhenium(I) Polypyridyl Complexes: Effect of the Bidentate N,N′-Ligands on the Damage Profile

2018

Re(I)--polypyridyl complexes have interesting and distinctive photochemical and photosensitizing properties. This work describes the capability to induce (or photoinduce) DNA damage of three Re(I)-complexes with a naturally occurring alkaloid called norharmane (nHo) as ligand: [Re(CO)₃ (nHo)(L)]CF₃ SO₃ where L=2,2'-bipyridine (ReBpy), phenanthroline (RePhen) or dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine (ReDppz). The interaction of the complexes with DNA was investigated by steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy. Data show that the mode and strength of interaction depend on the chemical structure of the bidentate ligand. The complexes show a major static contribution to the overall interaction, …

Effect of acidosis and anoxia on iron delocalization from brain homogenates.

1992

Abstract Cortical homogenates were prepared from rat brain in Krebs-Ringer phosphate media adjusted to pH 7, 6 or 5 and incubated for 1 hr under aerotic or anaerobic conditions in the presence of dipyridyl, an iron chelator. Low molecular weight species (LMWS) iron was measured spectrophotometrically after passing of the homogenates through a 10,000- M , ultrafiltration membrane. Following aerobic incubation, LMWS iron reached 1.24 μg/g tissue at pH 7, and increased 1.7-fold at pH 6 and 3.1-fold at pH 5. Anoxia enhanced significantly the amount of ultrafiltrable iron at the three pH values, the LMWS iron level being increased by 190% at pH 7, by 113% at pH 6, and by 77% at pH 5. Addition of…

Diversity and Evolution of papillomaviruses

2017
