Patients' and therapists' experiences of general change mechanisms during bug-in-the-eye and delayed video-based supervised cognitive-behavioral ther…
2016
Objective This secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial investigated whether bug-in-the-eye (BITE) supervision (live computer-based supervision during a psychotherapy session) affects the manner in which patients and therapists experience general change mechanisms (GCMs) during cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Method A total of 23 therapists were randomized either to the BITE condition or the control condition (delayed video-based [DVB] supervision). After each session, both patients (BITE: n = 19; DVB: n = 23) and therapists (BITE: n = 11; DVB: n = 12) completed the Helping Alliance Questionnaire (HAQ) and the Bernese Post Session Report (BPSR). The HAQ total score and the 3 …
Childhood Environment and Adult Height among Polish University Students
2010
The objective of the study is to assess whether the choice of a childcare type (i.e., a mother giving up a professional career to take care of her child, employing a childminder, day care centre and kindergarten) depends on a child's family socio-economic status and to investigate whether the childcare type affects an adult's height. The material for the study was gathered in the cross-section research carried out among 783 female students and 535 male students of universities in Krakow and Opole (southern Poland). The height was measured with standard anthropometric instruments. To assess a socio-economic status (SES), the following factors were analysed: a place of living before entering …
The effect of exposure to radiofrequency fields on cancer risk in the general and working population: A protocol for a systematic review of human obs…
2021
Highlights • RF-EMF was classified by IARC as possibly carcinogenic to humans (2B) in May 2011 • A systematic review of all subject-relevant epidemiological studies is now needed. • A detailed protocol ensures the review's transparency, utility and credibility. • Original study validity will be evaluated with a customized OHAT risk of bias tool. • Internal coherence and external plausibility will inform conclusions.
Sense and sensibility: using a model to examine the relationship between public pre-school places and fertility
2019
This paper presents a stochastic dynamic mathematical model, in which a Family Policy Index (XFPI) is included to measure and compare two different models of provision of resources to support families with children from 0 to 3 years old. The main variables in this model are the XFPI, fertility, mortality, emigration and immigration rates. This mathematical model was validated in two different countries, Spain and Norway, during the 2007–2015 period. A sensitivity analysis was applied to simulate the future trend (2016–2030), examining the influence of providing public pre-school services (0 to 3 years) on (XISF). The results obtained show that these services may indeed have an influence on …
Surface charge fine tuning of reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange type mixed-mode stationary phases for milder elution conditions.
2015
A series of new mixed-mode reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange (RP/WAX) phases have been synthesized by immobilization of N-undecenyl-3-α-aminotropane onto thiol-modified silica gel by thiol-ene click chemistry and subsequent introduction of acidic thiol-endcapping functionalities of different type and surface densities. Click chemistry allowed to adjust a controlled surface concentration of the RP/WAX ligand in such a way that a sufficient quantity of residual thiols remained unmodified which have been capped by thiol click with either 3-butenoic acid or allylsulfonic acid as co-ligands. In another embodiment, performic acid oxidation of N-undecenyl-3-α-aminotropane-derivatized thiol-modifi…
Stable-bond polymeric reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange mixed-mode stationary phases obtained by simultaneous functionalization and crosslinking of …
2019
Abstract A polymeric reversed-phase/weak anion exchange (Poly-RP/WAX) mixed-mode stationary phase has been prepared by coating of a poly(3-mercaptopropyl)methylsiloxane film on vinyl-modified silica (100 A, 5 μm) and simultaneous in situ functionalization with N-(10-undecenoyl)-3-aminoquinuclidine as well as crosslinking to the vinyl silica surface by solventless thiol-ene double click reaction. Such bonding chemistry showed greatly enhanced stability compared to brush-type analogs with bifunctional siloxane bonding to silica. Solid-state 29Si-CP/MAS NMR confirmed the immobilization of the siloxane layer. pH-Dependent ζ-potential determinations revealed a high anion-exchange capacity over t…
Surface-anchored counterions on weak chiral anion-exchangers accelerate separations and improve their compatibility for mass-spectrometry-hyphenation
2017
In the present work we propose new variants of chiral stationary phases (CSP) with tert-butylcarbamoylquinine (tBuCQN) as chiral selector molecule. Four tBuCQN-CSPs with distinct bonding chemistries are compared in terms of their pH-dependent surface charge by ζ-potential determinations, by achiral and chiral liquid chromatographic tests and LC-ESI-MS hyphenation. In one embodiment tBuCQN was immobilized on 3-mercaptopropylmethylsilyl-modified silica by thiol-ene click reaction (brush type CSP with selector coverage of 0.38mmol/g). In another embodiment, poly-(3-mercaptopropyl)-methylsiloxane was coated onto vinylized silica particles in presence of tBuCQN and radical initiator. The tBuCQN …
Performance of DEMETER calibration for rainfall forecasting purposes: Application to the July–August Sahelian rainfall
2008
International audience; This work assesses and compares the skill of direct and model-output-statistics (MOS) calibrated hindcasts of the July–August rainfall amounts for the dry period 1980–2000 over the Sahel issued from the Development of a European Multimodel Ensemble System for Seasonal to Interannual Prediction (DEMETER) experiment, with the aim to highlight among the simulated parameters, i.e., those potentially relevant for rainfall forecasts purposes. Three approaches were used: the DEMETER (1) direct rainfall, (2) MOS-calibrated rainfall, and (3) MOS-calibrated atmospheric dynamics and energy. Canonical correlation analyses (CCA) were employed in the two latter approaches to calib…
A reliable CSMA protocol for high performance broadcast communications in a WSN
2014
Wireless Sensor Networks have been identified as a promising technology to efficiently perform distributed monitoring, tracking and control tasks. In order to accomplish them, since fast decisions are generally required, high values of throughput must be obtained. Additionally, a high packet reception rate is important to avoid wasting energy due to unsuccessful transmissions. These communication requirements are more easily satisfied by exploiting the broadcast nature of the wireless medium, which allows several simultaneous receptions through a unique node transmission. We propose a Medium Access Control protocol that ensures, simultaneously, high values of throughput and a high packet re…
Construction of Disjoint Virtual Backbones for Wireless Sensor Networks
2020
A wireless sensor network is a wireless network of sensors aimed at monitoring physical events. It has ingratiated itself into almost all areas of human endeavors. Data dissemination in these networks is quite challenging and is generally accomplished by flooding. But flooding introduces broadcast storm problem due from implosion and overlap. To overcome this, topology management can prescribe a virtual backbone network to which routing is confined. In this paper we propose an algorithm that constructs multiple disjoint virtual backbone networks, using only nodes' locations. The disjointedness makes routing more robust and the network exploitation energy efficient. Simulations show our algo…
