Red blood cell plasmalogens and docosahexaenoic acid are independently reduced in primary open-angle glaucoma

2009

International audience; Among several theories involved in the pathogenesis of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), the vascular theory considers the disease to be a consequence of reduced ocular blood flow associated with red blood cell abnormalities. Red blood cell membrane structure and function are influenced by their phospholipid composition. We investigated whether specific lipid entities that may affect the membrane physiology, namely, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and plasmalogens, are modified in POAG and whether these potential variations are related to the stage of glaucoma. Blood samples were collected from 31 POAG patients and 10 healthy individuals. The stage of glaucoma …

I TRE GIOIELLI DELLA PEDAGOGIA BUDDHISTA. BUDDHA, DHARMA E SANGHA

2020

This paper presents Buddhism as a paideia where the personal education takes place through the so-called three jewels: the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha, or the Master, the Way of Truth and the Spiritual Community. These are three refuges where the disciple carries out an interior search that, contrary to belief, does not happen in solitude but with the careful guidance of a Master and with the spiritual companions of the community. Finally, it’s affermed the great relevance of a millenary religion that today offers practices of interiority education to cultivate spiritual qualities such as wisdom, generosity, patience, love and compassion to build a new humanity.

Potential of the EPA/DHA 6/1 formulation to prevent endothelial dysfunction and cardiopulmonary remodeling in pulmonary arterial hypertension in rats

2016

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is characterized by remodeling of the small pulmonary arteries leading to a progressive increase in pulmonary vascular resistance and right ventricular failure. Pulmonary endothelial dysfunction, inflammation and oxidative stress promote the development of pulmonary hypertension. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acids (DHA) have been shown to protect the cardiovascular system and reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. The present study evaluate the potential of EPA:DHA 6:1 to prevent monocrotaline-induced PAH in rats. EPA:DHA 6:1 treatment (500 mg/kg/d, p.o) prevented the MCT-induced mean pul…

Lipid profiling following intake of the Omega 3 fatty acid DHA identifies the peroxidized metabolites F-4-Neuroprostanes as the best predictors of at…

2014

International audience; The anti-atherogenic effects of omega 3 fatty acids, namely eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acids (DHA) are well recognized but the impact of dietary intake on bioactive lipid mediat or profiles remains unclear. Such a profiling effort may offer novel targets for future studies into the mechanism of action of omega 3 fatty acids. The present study aimed to determine the impact of DHA supplementation on the profiles of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) oxygenated metabolites and to investigate their contribution to therosclerosis prevention. A special emphasis was given to the non-enzymatic metabolites knowing the high susceptibility of DHA to free radical…

Costanti e metamorfosi di un mito. Beatrice Cenci nell'Ottocento, da Shelley a Guerrazzi e oltre.

2011

The essay deals with the transformation of Beatrice Cenci’ story in a literary myth, with special reference to its impact on the romantic sensitivity, on the collective imagination of Italian Risorgimento, and in the works by Shelley, Stendhal, Dumas and Guerrazzi,

The mTOR Inhibitor Temsirolimus Added to Rituximab Combined With Dexamethasone, Cytarabine, and Cisplatinum (R-DHAP) for the Treatment of Patients Wi…

2021

There is a high need for novel treatment options in relapsed and refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Single agent mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor treatment has shown promising efficacy in this entity. Here, we report on the results of the mTOR-inhibitor temsirolimus combined to standard rituximab-DHAP salvage regimen in a prospective, multicenter, phase II, open-label study. The STORM regimen consisted of rituximab 375 mg/m(2) (day 2) and DHAP (dexamethasone 40 mg day 3-6, cisplatinum 100 mg/m(2) day 3, cytarabine 2 × 2  g/m(2) day 4) with temsirolimus added on day 1 and 8 of a 21-day cycle, with 2 to 4 cycles planned. In part I, dose levels of 25, 50, 75, and 100 mg fo…

Expression of the succinate dehydrogenase genes (sdhCAB) from the facultatively anaerobic paenibacillus macerans during aerobic growth

1998

Paenibacillus (formerly Bacillus) macerans is capable of succinate oxidation under oxic conditions and fumarate reduction under anoxic conditions. The reactions are catalyzed by different enzymes, succinate dehydrogenase (Sdh) and fumarate reductase (Frd). The genes encoding Sdh (sdhCAB) were analyzed. The gene products of sdhA and sdhB were similar to the subunits of known Sdh and Frd enzymes. The hydrophobic subunit SdhC showed close sequence similarity to the class of Sdh/Frd enzymes containing diheme cytochrome b. From the sdhCAB gene cluster two transcripts were produced, one comprising sdhCAB, the other sdhAB. The transcripts were found only during aerobic growth, and the amount was d…

Ekspansja tradycyjnej muzyki podhalańskiej na północ

2020

Libertà e diritti tra India e Europa. Per un approccio genealogico ai valori culturali

2009

Freedom and Rights between India and Europe. A Genealogical Approach to Cultural Values - This paper will deal with the issue of human rights and multiculturalism away from cultural relativism and universalism while taking inspiration from Nietzsche’s Moral Genealogy. In particular, the concepts of karma, dharma and trivarga (an indian traditional form of particularism in the law) will be explained as they are expressed in the Bhagavad Gita, one of the most important texts of Indian philosophical literature. From this analysis it will emerge the impossibility of deducing the idea of human rights from the Sanskrit text. Not because the Bhagavad Gita adopts a communitarian conception of the s…
