Correlations of isokinetic and psychophysical back lift and static back extensor endurance tests in men

Isokinetic lift, psychophysical lift, and static back endurance tests are among the most widely used measurements of muscle function for determining risk for, and recovery from, back problems. After determining test repeatability we examined the degree of association between these test measures in 100 men selected to represent a variety of occupations and lifestyles. Isokinetic lifting had low correlations with test results for psychophysical lifting (r = 0.28) and static back endurance (r = 0.24). According to cross-sectional and interventional studies, high-intensity strength and impact-type training provide a powerful osteogenic stimulus even in old age. Background: Inhibition of activin/myostatin pathway has emerged as a novel approach to increase muscle mass and bone strength. Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a neuromuscular disorder that leads to progressive muscle degeneration and also high incidence of fractures. Die Osteopetrose ist eine Erkrankung, bei der es zu Resorptionsstorungen des durch enchondrale Ossifikation gebildeten Knochens kommt. Die Ursache der Osteoklasteninsuffizienz ist nicht bekannt. In der Literatur wird ein vollstandiger Syntheseverlust der Zysteinprotease Kathepsin K als Atiologie der Resorptionsstorung diskutiert. Wir konnten in unserem Fallbericht bei der benignen Form der Osteopetrose eine Kathepsin-K-Expression osteoklastarer Zellen nachweisen. Orthopadisch Kranke mit geistigen und seelischen Behinderungen fielen nicht mehr in die Obhut der Orthopaden und waren potenziell der Vernichtung ausgesetzt.
