Gender differences in axis I and axis II comorbidity in patients with borderline personality disorder.
2008
Background/Aims: Differences in the clinical presentation of men and women with borderline personality disorder (BPD) are of potential interest for investigations into the neurobiology, genetics, natural history, and treatment response of BPD. The purpose of this study was to investigate gender differences in axis I and axis II comorbidity and in diagnostic criteria in BPD patients. Methods: 110 women and 49 men with BPD were assessed with the computer-based version of the Munich-Composite International Diagnostic Interview and the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Personality Disorders. Gender differences were investigated for the following outc…

Angular distributions in the decay B -> K*l(+)l(-)
2009
We use a sample of 384 million BBbar events collected with the Babar detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider to study angular distributions in the rare decays B -> K* l+l-, where l+l- is either e+e- or mu+mu-. For low dilepton invariant masses, m(l+l-)3.2$ GeV/c^2, we measure AFB=0.76 (+0.52,-0.32) +/- 0.07 FL=0.71 (+0.20,-0.22) +/- 0.04.
Plasma Effecton Pulse Parameters of Sound Wave
2019
This article presents the experimental results of the effect of gas discharge plasma on an acoustic wave. It is shown that after a certain intensity of the acoustic wave, the presence of plasma leads to a decrease in the Q -factor of the acoustic resonator, a shift in the acoustic resonance in the gas discharge tube at a lower frequency, and after switching off the acoustics, low-frequency gas oscillations with a frequency of 2 Hz are generated in the tube.
Employment Effects of Skills Around the World: Evidence from PIAAC
2017
Making use of an international survey that directly assesses participants’ cognitive skills, I study the effect of skills on workers’ employment in 32 countries. On average, a one-standard-deviation increase in numeracy skills is associated with a 7.6 percentage points increase in the probability of being employed. Controlling for years spent in education, the employment effect of numeracy skills falls to 4.8 percentage points. Numeracy skills account for 30 percent of the 2.7 percentage points employment effect that is associated with years of education. There is considerable heterogeneity across both subgroups and countries.
Are replicate evaluations of triangle tests during a session good practice?
1997
Results from four experiments in which replicated triangle tests were performed are reported. Two experiments were carried out with non experienced assessors and the two other ones with experienced assessors. Results from the non experienced assessors showed a slight performance increase from the beginning to the end of the session whereas results from the experienced assessors did not. This is explained by an attentional process allowing non experienced assessors to gradually focus their attention on the difference between the two tested products. In some specific occasions, replicate triangle tests might be a good methodological practice when the purpose of the test is to study the effect…
Error calculation for the PSA quotient.
2008
Abstract Objective Prostate specific antigen (PSA) assays have significant measurement errors, but the error associated with the PSA quotient (free to total PSA) often remains unknown. Methods We used both Gaussian error calculation and measurement of imprecision to investigate the level of error associated with the PSA quotient. Results Surprisingly, we found that the error of the PSA quotient at low levels is markedly smaller than that of the total PSA value. Conclusions The PSA quotient should be calculated and considered as a clinically relevant value.
Occupational therapy as an academic discipline in Finland
2000
The aim of this short report is to outline the relation between Finnish educational policy and the dualistic educational structure of Finland, to describe the consequences of this system for education in occupational therapy at university level, and to speculate on the likely development and challenges facing academic occupational therapy education in the future. The authors have been involved in the development process. Copyright © 2000 Whurr Publishers Ltd.
Validity of the Play Assessment for Group Settings: An evaluation of differential item functioning between children with specific language impairment…
2011
Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity evidence based on internal structure of the Play Assessment for Group Settings (PAGS). Methods: The study was conducted in day care centres by comparing observations of the free play performance of two groups of children: those with specific language impairments (SLIs) (n = 55) and those with typical language development (n = 55). The participating children were 3 to 6.5 years of age. Data were subjected to many-faceted Rasch analyses and differential item functioning analysis was conducted to identify possible group-specific items in the PAGS. The effect of differentially functioning items on mean play performance measurements b…
