Different moment, different tune : how emotional perception of music changes with the time of day

2012

According to the classical music tradition of Northern India, the ability of a song to induce certain emotions depends on the time of day: playing a song at the right time is said to maximise its emotional effect. Transposing this idea into a Western context, I decided to investigate this claim by combining findings in chronobiology with findings in music and emotion. It has already been established that our mood fluctuations follow a cyclical pattern. Besides, it is a known fact that our current mood influences our ability to perceive emotions. However, no one has ever linked these elements together and studied diurnal mood variations and their effect on perceived emotions in music. To tes…

From sustainability to sustainable development: the role of food banks in food security in Uganda : a case study of the hunger project food bank - Mb…

2014

Master thesis in development management - University of Agder 2014 The purpose of this study is to identify the role the food bank plays for food security, sustainable livelihoods and building resilience to climate change among smallholder farmers in Uganda. The aim is to investigate how the food bank in Uganda operates in relation to food security and smallholder farmers. Much of the studies on food banks reveal that food banks are merely institutions that offer emergency food supplies to the hungry and are not agencies aiming at food security. These studies have, however, been based on the context of developed countries and no study has been conducted to establish the role of food banks i…

"Slitsomt, men gøy!" : en kvalitativ studie om den nyutdannede anestesisykepleieren sin opplevelse av kompetanse av yrkesutøvelsen

2014

Masteroppgave i spesialsykepleie – Universitetet i Agder 2014 Background: With the technological and medical development we are experiencing today, the anesthesia nurse is constantly challenged with complex patient situations and advanced medical equipment in their work . This situation leads to substantial professional requirements on expertise in the anesthesia subject. International research shows that there are many factors that influence a nurses' experiences in their first year of working after graduation. However, in Norway there is little research on the experience of own competency for newly qualified anesthesia nurses. Purpose and issue: The purpose of this study is to learn how t…

Polygenic association between attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder liability and cognitive impairments.

2022

AbstractBackgroundA recent genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified 12 independent loci significantly associated with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Polygenic risk scores (PRS), derived from the GWAS, can be used to assess genetic overlap between ADHD and other traits. Using ADHD samples from several international sites, we derived PRS for ADHD from the recent GWAS to test whether genetic variants that contribute to ADHD also influence two cognitive functions that show strong association with ADHD: attention regulation and response inhibition, captured by reaction time variability (RTV) and commission errors (CE).MethodsThe discovery GWAS included 19 099 ADHD cases …

Dynamics of brain activity underlying working memory for music in a naturalistic condition

2012

Working memory (WM) is at the core of any cognitive function as it is necessary for the integration of information over time. Despite WM’s critical role in high-level cognitive functions, its implementation in the neural tissue is poorly understood. Preliminary studies on auditory WM show differences between linguistic and musical memory, leading to the speculation of specific neural networks encoding memory for music. Moreover, in neuroscience WM has not been studied in naturalistic listening conditions but rather in artificial settings (e.g., n-back and Sternberg tasks). Western tonal music provides naturally occurring motivic repetition and variation, recognizable units serving as WM tri…

Sono arrabbiato e sono antropologo. Blues lévi-straussiano su un’emozione furente

2017

Microorganisms and Biotic Interactions

2014

SPE IPM; Most ecosystems are populated by a large number of diversified microorganisms, which interact with one another and form complex interaction networks. In addition, some of these microorganisms may colonize the surface or internal parts of plants and animals, thereby providing an additional level of interaction complexity. These microbial relations range from intraspecific to interspecific interactions, and from simple short-term interactions to intricate long-term ones. They have played a key role in the formation of plant and animal kingdoms, often resulting in coevolution; they control the size, activity level, and diversity patterns of microbial communities. Therefore, they modul…
