Counting and equidistribution in Heisenberg groups

2014

We strongly develop the relationship between complex hyperbolic geometry and arithmetic counting or equidistribution applications, that arises from the action of arithmetic groups on complex hyperbolic spaces, especially in dimension $2$. We prove a Mertens' formula for the integer points over a quadratic imaginary number fields $K$ in the light cone of Hermitian forms, as well as an equidistribution theorem of the set of rational points over $K$ in Heisenberg groups. We give a counting formula for the cubic points over $K$ in the complex projective plane whose Galois conjugates are orthogonal and isotropic for a given Hermitian form over $K$, and a counting and equidistribution result for …

Regularity of sets with constant horizontal normal in the Engel group

2012

In the Engel group with its Carnot group structure we study subsets of locally finite subRiemannian perimeter and possessing constant subRiemannian normal. We prove the rectifiability of such sets: more precisely we show that, in some specific coordinates, they are upper-graphs of entire Lipschitz functions (with respect to the Euclidean distance). However we find that, when they are written as intrinsic horizontal upper-graphs with respect to the direction of the normal, then the function defining the set might even fail to be continuous. Nevertheless, we can prove that one can always find other horizontal directions for which the set is the intrinsic horizontal upper-graph of a function t…

Rigidité, comptage et équidistribution de chaînes de Cartan quaternioniques

2020

We prove an analog of Cartan's theorem, saying that the chain-preserving transformations of the boundary of the quaternionic hyperbolic spaces are projective transformations.

Geometry and analysis of Dirichlet forms

2012

Let $ \mathscr E $ be a regular, strongly local Dirichlet form on $L^2(X, m)$ and $d$ the associated intrinsic distance. Assume that the topology induced by $d$ coincides with the original topology on $ X$, and that $X$ is compact, satisfies a doubling property and supports a weak $(1, 2)$-Poincar\'e inequality. We first discuss the (non-)coincidence of the intrinsic length structure and the gradient structure. Under the further assumption that the Ricci curvature of $X$ is bounded from below in the sense of Lott-Sturm-Villani, the following are shown to be equivalent: (i) the heat flow of $\mathscr E$ gives the unique gradient flow of $\mathscr U_\infty$, (ii) $\mathscr E$ satisfies the Ne…

Menger curvature and rectifiability in metric spaces

2008

We show that for any metric space $X$ the condition \[ \int_X\int_X\int_X c(z_1,z_2,z_3)^2\, d\Hm z_1\, d\Hm z_2\, d\Hm z_3 < \infty, \] where $c(z_1,z_2,z_3)$ is the Menger curvature of the triple $(z_1,z_2,z_3)$, guarantees that $X$ is rectifiable.

Planar Sobolev homeomorphisms and Hausdorff dimension distortion

2011

We investigate how planar Sobolev-Orlicz homeomorphisms map sets of Hausdorff dimension less than two. With the correct gauge functions the generalized Hausdorff measures of the image sets are shown to be zero.

A short proof of the infinitesimal Hilbertianity of the weighted Euclidean space

2020

We provide a quick proof of the following known result: the Sobolev space associated with the Euclidean space, endowed with the Euclidean distance and an arbitrary Radon measure, is Hilbert. Our new approach relies upon the properties of the Alberti-Marchese decomposability bundle. As a consequence of our arguments, we also prove that if the Sobolev norm is closable on compactly-supported smooth functions, then the reference measure is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure.

Dimension gap under Sobolev mappings

2015

Abstract We prove an essentially sharp estimate in terms of generalized Hausdorff measures for the images of boundaries of Holder domains under continuous Sobolev mappings, satisfying suitable Orlicz–Sobolev conditions. This estimate marks a dimension gap, which was first observed in [2] for conformal mappings.

University experience of a tutorial action programme during the COVID-19 lockdown in teacher training at a Valencian University (Spain)

2021

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is perceived as the worst modern-times pandemic. This entirely new health situation entailed a new challenge to the education system. To our knowledge, the impact of alternative teaching methods derived from the social distancing imposed by COVID-19 on university student perception in teacher education has not been investigated. The aim of this study was to analyse an educative experience developed in a Faculty of Teaching from March 2020 to July 2020 in order to overcome the challenge imposed by COVID-19. A qualitative approach was used for data collection and analysis using four information sources: (a) The final written documents developed by the worki…

University and non-formal education

2017

Young students place great importance on their personal, professional and educational development alike but in the same time are actively involved in leisure activities. Through non-formal and informal activities the university can help students to develop new skills, can change or increase certain preferences regarding cultural consumption, sports and recreational activities. This paper presents the results of a study based on students attending universities across three cities. It aims to demonstrate that during the years spent at university, students are significantly less influenced by their parents in terms of behaviour and cultural preferences; instead these aspects as well as recreat…
