Latvia. Human Development Report 2010/2011: National identity, Mobility and Capability

2011

The 2010/2011 report was produced under the auspices of the national research programme „National Identity”. The job of the report is to survey the content of individual national belonging in the context of human development. The report particularly focuses on emigration issues, because human development is weakened by a reduction in the size of the country’s population. The fact that people are moving to other countries shows that there is an endless competition among identities, as well as a transformation of those identities. The report also reveals the set of circumstances and techniques (the ability to act) which facilitate links between an individual and a location or region. The firs…

Networking Healthcare from a competitive call to a medical cooperation as a guarantee of a found confidence

2012

Coexistence of superconductivity and spin-splitting fields in superconductor/ferromagnetic insulator bilayers of arbitrary thickness

2021

Ferromagnetic insulators (FI) can induce a strong exchange field in an adjacent superconductor (S) via the magnetic proximity effect. This manifests as spin splitting of the BCS density of states of the superconductor, an important ingredient for numerous superconducting spintronics applications and the realization of Majorana fermions. A crucial parameter that determines the magnitude of the induced spin splitting in FI/S bilayers is the thickness of the S layer d: In very thin samples, the superconductivity is suppressed by the strong magnetism. By contrast, in very thick samples, the spin splitting is absent at distances away from the interface. In this work, we calculate the density of …

Long-term evolution of luminescent properties in CdI2 crystals

2016

Fresh and aged melt-grown or gas-phase grown CdI2 crystals are studied by means of low-temperature photoluminescence spectroscopy. Noticeable transformations of emission spectra are observed after long-term aging. The formation of nanostructures containing cadmium oxide and cadmium hydroxide as well as the changes in local surrounding of iodine atoms and the possible growth of polytypic modifications of CdI2 are taken into account when considering the diversity of optical spectra.

Low-temperature luminescence of CdI2 under synchrotron radiation

2020

Synchrotron radiation is applied to study visible and UV luminescence spectra and their excitation spectra of undoped as well as In and Sb doped cadmium iodide crystals at 10 K. The origin of principal luminescence bands and the role of impurities in the formation of emission centers are discussed. The luminescence properties have been explained based on the electronic structure of CdI2 crystals.

Study of the multipactor phenomenon using a full-wave integral equation technique

2017

Abstract Multipactor effect is a well-known phenomenon of RF breakdown in satellite payloads which degrades components, generates undesirable harmonics, contributes to power dissipation and increases noise in communications. Traditionally, multipactor has been investigated with the aim of obtaining the so-called multipactor threshold voltage, or to present different multipaction detection methods. However, very little attention has been focused on analysing this phenomenon using a multimodal approach. The main goal of this work is to analyse the interaction between a multipactor current and a realistic microwave cavity by means of a rigorous and accurate formulation. For the first time to t…

Ion track template technology for fabrication of CdTe and CdO nanocrystals

2020

Abstract CdTe and CdO nanocrystals were synthesized by chemical deposition into a-SiO2/n-Si ion track template formed by 200 MeV Xe ion irradiation with the fluence of 108 ions/cm2. Depending on the temperature of the solution CdTe + CdO and single-phase CdO with a hexagonal crystal structure were obtained, respectively. The study of the current – voltage characteristics of the obtained structure with the single-phase CdO allows us to estimate the number of grain boundaries and the height of the potential barrier, as well as the n-type conductivity.

Radiation hardness studies of CdTe and for the SIXS particle detector on-board the BepiColombo spacecraft

2009

Abstract We report of the radiation hardness measurements that were performed in the developing work of a particle detector on-board ESA's forthcoming BepiColombo spacecraft. Two different high- Z semiconductor compounds, cadmium telluride (CdTe) and mercuric iodide (HgI 2 ), were irradiated with 22 MeV protons in four steps to attain the estimated total dose of 10 12 p / cm 2 for the mission time. The performance of the detectors was studied before and after every irradiation with radioactive 55 Fe source Mn K α 5.9 keV emission line. We studied the impact of the proton beam exposure on detector leakage current, energy resolution and charge collection efficiency (CCE). Also the reconstruct…
