An Early Stage Researcher's Primer on Systems Medicine Terminology
2021
Background: Systems Medicine is a novel approach to medicine, that is, an interdisciplinary field that considers the human body as a system, composed of multiple parts and of complex relationships at multiple levels, and further integrated into an environment. Exploring Systems Medicine implies understanding and combining concepts coming from diametral different fields, including medicine, biology, statistics, modeling and simulation, and data science. Such heterogeneity leads to semantic issues, which may slow down implementation and fruitful interaction between these highly diverse fields. Methods: In this review, we collect and explain more than100 terms related to Systems Medicine. Thes…
Exploring learning analytics on YouTube: a tool to support students interactions analysis
2021
YouTube is a free online video-sharing platform that is often used by students for their learning activities. The interactions of the students when using the platform to shape new concepts, are worth to be investigated to better understand and to optimize the learning opportunities that take place in this platform. In this paper, we investigate which types of data are relevant to analyse the interactions of students with content on YouTube, and we introduce a new tool that emulates students’ interactions with the platform in order to provide data to be used in supporting Learning Analytics approaches. Our preliminary study inspects the tool effectiveness in data collection and analyses the …
Inferring Learning Strategies from Cultural Frequency Data
2015
Social learning has been identified as one of the fundamentals of culture and therefore the understanding of why and how individuals use social information presents one of the big questions in cultural evolution. To date much of the theoretical work on social learning has been done in isolation of data. Evolutionary models often provide important insight into which social learning strategies are expected to have evolved but cannot tell us which strategies human populations actually use. In this chapter we explore how much information about the underlying learning strategies can be extracted by analysing the temporal occurrence or usage patterns of different cultural variants in a population…
Generating a Located Synthetic Population of Individuals, Households, and Dwellings
2017
Some of the new approaches in urban modeling, such as multi-agent systems (MAS) or activity-based models (ABM), require inputs in the form of disaggregated individual data. But for privacy protection reasons, such data is seldom available at this level. One way to get around this obstacle is to generate a synthetic population. This paper presents a method for generating a population from fully aggregated socio-demographic and geographic data. Based on French examples, this method can be reproduced anywhere in the country providing a relevant linkage between the characteristics of agents and those of urban spaces. The proposed method is subdivided into two steps. First, a population of agent…
Nodarbinātības prognozēšana, izmantojot ekonomiko ziņu noskaņojumu
2021
Causality-based Social Media Analysis for Normal Users Credibility Assessment in a Political Crisis
2019
Information trustworthiness assessment on political social media discussions is crucial to maintain the order of society, especially during emergent situations. The polarity nature of political topics and the echo chamber effect by social media platforms allow for a deceptive and a dividing environment. During a political crisis, a vast amount of information is being propagated on social media, that leads up to a high level of polarization and deception by the beneficial parties. The traditional approaches to tackling misinformation on social media usually lack a comprehensive problem definition due to its complication. This paper proposes a probabilistic graphical model as a theoretical vi…
Mining Customer Requirement from Helpful Online Reviews
2014
Today there are a huge quantity of online reviews available across different categories of products. The key question is how to select helpful online reviews and what can we learn from the abundant reviews. In this paper, we first conclude five categories of features to predict reviews' helpfulness from the perspective of a product designer and then present an approach based on conjoint analysis to measure customer requirement. The suggested approach are demonstrated using product data from a popular Chinese mobile phone market.
Assessing Complexity in Physiological Systems through Biomedical Signals Analysis
2020
The idea that most physiological systems are complex has become increasingly popular in recent decades [...]
ProcMiner: Advancing Process Analysis and Management
2007
This paper contributes both to research and practice on process mining. Previous research on process mining has focused on mining patterns from event log files to generate process models. The process mining approach adopted in this paper is focused on producing patterns about process models, not the models themselves. The approach is demonstrated by ProcMiner -an explorative research prototype for management, consolidating, publishing, retrieving, and analyzing process models. Content-based document clustering is applied to process models represented as XML database in order to find topical groups from models. In practice, organizations face numerous challenges in managing their process mod…
