Migrating from a Centralized Data Warehouse to a Decentralized Data Platform Architecture
2021
To an increasing degree, data is a driving force for digitization, and hence also a key asset for numerous companies. In many businesses, various sources of data exist, which are isolated from one another in different domains, across a heterogeneous application landscape. Well-known centralized solution technologies, such as data warehouses and data lakes, exist to integrate data into one system, but they do not always scale well. Therefore, robust and decentralized ways to manage data can provide the companies with better value give companies a competitive edge over a single central repository. In this paper, we address why and when a monolithic data storage should be decentralized for imp…
Mining Customer Requirement from Helpful Online Reviews
2014
Today there are a huge quantity of online reviews available across different categories of products. The key question is how to select helpful online reviews and what can we learn from the abundant reviews. In this paper, we first conclude five categories of features to predict reviews' helpfulness from the perspective of a product designer and then present an approach based on conjoint analysis to measure customer requirement. The suggested approach are demonstrated using product data from a popular Chinese mobile phone market.
Why do we reject the wisdom from the past? Reflections on the practical dimension of values in historical education
2020

Each woman was interviewed three times: at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the program. Content analysis was used to analyse the data. The result…
PHOTOGRAMMETRIC TECHNIQUES FOR PROMOTION OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL HERITAGE: THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF PARMA (ITALY)
2016
Abstract. In a context rich in history and cultural heritage, such as the Italian one, promotion and enhancement of historical evidences are crucial. The paper describes the case study of the Archaeological Museum of Parma, which, for the main part, conserves evidences found in the roman archaeological site of Veleia (Piacenza, Italy). To enhance the comprehension of the past, the project aims to promote the exhibits through new digital contents, in particular 3D models and AR applications, to improve their usability by the public. Projects like this pose some difficulties especially in data acquisition and restitution due to complexity of the objects and their dimension and position that a…
Las dimensiones filosófica y antropológica de la interpretación educativa
2006
The central thesis sustained in this article focuses on the idea that any complete educational exposition needs a philosophical an anthropological dimension. Although these positions are quite different they share a common starting point: the defence of a philosophical conception as the basis of the Theory of the Education.
Using Factor Analysis in Relationship Marketing
2013
Abstract The purpose of the paper is to present a detailed application of the factor analysis technique within the domain of relationship marketing. A comprehensive literature review is undertaken regarding the concept of customer loyalty – an important variable of relationship marketing. Loyalty is defined by its two dimensions – behavioral and attitudinal; the second dimension is understood through the three components of the human psyche: affective, cognitive and conative. Conative Loyalty is measured through four items which are statistically and semantically reduced to two items without a heavy loss of information.
Science teachers’ perceptions of the current situation of planetary emergency
2003
During the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio in 1992 educators of every subject were asked to contribute to public awareness and understanding of the problems and challenges related to our planet’s future, in order to make possible citizens’ participation in well grounded decision-making. The purpose of our contribution is to analyse what science teachers’ perceptions are, because without correct teacher perception of the planetary crisis and its possible solutions, we can’t expect their effective implication in this dimension of education.
Consumers’ Sustainability Perceptions of the Supply Chain of Locally Produced Food
2010
This article is based on a qualitative focus group study regarding consumer perceptions about the sustainability of locally produced food supply chains. Sustainability perceptions were analyzed through thematic content analysis, where the most important economic, environmental and social themes of the supply chain were emphasized. According to the research findings, the socio-cultural aspects encompassing locally produced food form the most important sustainability dimension for consumers. Although the sample size is small, consisting of 19 consumers and limited to Central Finland, the findings suggest that the sustainability of local food should be promoted via socio-cultural arguments alo…
The Covid-19 containment effects of public health measures - A spatial difference-in-differences approach
2020
AbstractSince mid-March 2020 the Federal and state governments in Germany agreed on comprehensive public health measures to curb the spread of SARS-CoV-2 infections leading to the Covid-19 disease. We study the containment effects of these policy interventions on the progression of the pandemic in the first containment phase in spring 2020 before the easing of restrictions may become effective by the end of April. To exploit both the temporal and spatial dimension in the dissemination of the virus, we conduct a spatial panel data analysis for German NUTS-3 regions. Specifically, we employ a spatial difference-in-differences approach to identify the effects of six compound sets of public hea…
