Mobility behavior will be analyzed in relation to socio-demographic characteristics through a survival modeling approach. Data collected through GPS devices on cruise passengers’ behavior in the ports of Palermo and Dubrovnik will be analyzed in order to determine similarities and differences among cruise passengers’ behaviors at their destination, according to socio-demographic characteristics. Abstract There is a broad set of concept mapping tasks which can be used by teachers for assessing students’ knowledge structures but there are no known works of research studying their adaptation to students’ individual differences and preferences in relation to different tasks. The paper reports first results of activities which aim to offer a solution of the abovementioned problem. It is based on extensive review of theoretical and empirical studies and focuses on: a) identification of advantages and drawbacks of different concept mapping tasks, and b) finding factors which may affect students’ concept mapping ability.

AbstractThis paper reports on a study about how the mathematics textbook was perceived and used by the teacher in the context of a calculus part of a basic mathematics course for first-year engineering students. The focus was on the teacher's choices and the use of definitions, examples and exercises in a sequence of lectures introducing the derivative concept. Data were collected during observations of lectures and an interview, and informal talks with the teacher. Work in academia is changing, and research suggests that not all the changes are desirable. Higher education is developing in a direction heavily criticized, especially in relation to the concepts of neoliberal and academic capitalism. In this article, we explore meaningful work in a university context. Our focus lies on individual lecturers’ positive opportunities to make work meaningful and the university a better place to work for both students and faculty. Technological addictions (social networks, mobile and video games) are one of the current main problems presented by adolescents in relation to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This paper describes the main characteristics of these new addictions and presents the ADITEC, an instrument whose objectives are the evaluation and prevention of these addictions. ADITEC is a tool specially designed to be applied in educational settings, with homeworks that can be supervised by parents.

Current research in knowledge representation distinguishes between descriptional and assertional interpretations of semantic nets. This paper explores theoretical and applicative problems, which arise from that distinction in a historic domain. A prolog implementation of KL-ONE is used as a vehicle to compare the various alternatives available to represent knowledge related to single elements of the domain insertion or not of this knowledge in semantic nets in their descriptional sense. The final section of the paper discusses the problem in relation to the theories concerning the functioning of proper names from a logical and philosophical point of view.
