Approximation by uniform domains in doubling quasiconvex metric spaces
2020
We show that any bounded domain in a doubling quasiconvex metric space can be approximated from inside and outside by uniform domains.
The graded Lie algebra structure of Lie superalgebra deformation theory
1989
We show how Lie superalgebra deformation theory can be treated by graded Lie algebras formalism. Rigidity and integrability theorems are obtained.
Low-Noise Amplification and Frequency Conversion with a Multiport Microwave Optomechanical Device
2016
High-gain amplifiers of electromagnetic signals operating near the quantum limit are crucial for quantum information systems and ultrasensitive quantum measurements. However, the existing techniques have a limited gain-bandwidth product and only operate with weak input signals. Here we demonstrate a two-port optomechanical scheme for amplification and routing of microwave signals, a system that simultaneously performs high-gain amplification and frequency conversion in the quantum regime. Our amplifier, implemented in a two-cavity microwave optomechanical device, shows 41 dB of gain and has a high dynamic range, handling input signals up to $10^{13}$ photons per second, three orders of magn…
Strategies for annotation and curation of translational databases: the eTUMOUR project
2012
Altres ajuts: LSHC/CT2004-503094 The eTUMOUR (eT) multi-centre project gathered in vivo and ex vivo magnetic resonance (MR) data, as well as transcriptomic and clinical information from brain tumour patients, with the purpose of improving the diagnostic and prognostic evaluation of future patients. In order to carry this out, among other work, a database-the eTDB-was developed. In addition to complex permission rules and software and management quality control (QC), it was necessary to develop anonymization, processing and data visualization tools for the data uploaded. It was also necessary to develop sophisticated curation strategies that involved on one hand, dedicated fields for QC-gene…
The EDNAP mitochondrial DNA population database (EMPOP) collaborative exercises: organisation, results and perspectives.
2003
This paper presents an overview of the organisation and the results of the collaborative exercises (CE) of the European DNA Profiling (EDNAP) Group's mitochondrial DNA population database project (EMPOP). The aim of the collaborative exercises was to determine whether uniformity of mtDNA sequencing results could be achieved among different laboratories. These were asked to sequence either the complete mtDNA control region or the two hypervariable regions HVI (16024-16365) and HVII (73-340) from DNA extracts, buccal swabs or bloodstains, proceeding in accordance with the protocol and strategies used in each individual laboratory. The results of the collaborative exercises were employed to id…
Development of an Italian RM Y-STR haplotype database: Results of the 2013 GEFI collaborative exercise.
2015
Recently introduced rapidly mutating Y-chromosomal short tandem repeat (RM Y-STR) loci, displaying a multiple-fold higher mutation rate relative to any other Y-STRs, including those conventionally used in forensic casework, have been demonstrated to improve the resolution of male lineage differentiation and to allow male relative separation usually impossible with standard Y-STRs. However, large and geographically-detailed frequency haplotype databases are required to estimate the statistical weight of RM Y-STR haplotype matches if observed in forensic casework. With this in mind, the Italian Working Group (GEFI) of the International Society for Forensic Genetics launched a collaborative ex…

Solvent extrusion leads to crystallographic–magnetic transition within a molecular complex via an intermediate that can be trapped and characterized.
A new method for data evaluation of small angle neutron scattering experiments and its application to amorphous polycarbonate
1981
The conformation of single chains in bulk polymer materials can be evaluated from coherent neutron scattering on mixtures of normal and deuterated polymers. It is shown that the single-chain structure factor can be also obtained from measurements of highly concentrated mixtures and the procedure of evaluation is described. The application to amorphous polycarbonate demonstrates the advantages of the method.

Atom-based 3D-chiral quadratic indices. Part 2: prediction of the corticosteroid-binding globulinbinding affinity of the 31 benchmark steroids data s…
2005
A quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) study to predict the relative affinities of the steroid 'benchmark' data set to the corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG) is described. It is shown that the 3D-chiral quadratic indices closely correlate with the measured CBG affinity values for the 31 steroids. The calculated descriptors were correlated with biological data through multiple linear regressions. Two statistically significant models were obtained when non-stochastic (R = 0.924 and s = 0.46) as well as stochastic (R = 0.929 and s = 0.46) 3D-chiral quadratic indices were used. A leave-one-out (LOO) approach to model validation is used here; the best results obtained in the cr…
