One-Pot Oxidative C–H Activation/Aza-Prins-Type Reaction of Tertiary Alkynylamines: A Counter Ion-Induced Iminium Ion–Alkyne Cyclization

2021

Herein, the design and development of a new one-pot and metal-free oxidative C-H activation/aza-Prins type cyclization of alkynylamines is reported. The scope of this method was demonstrated by the preparation of ten new pyrido[2,1-a]isoquinolines in moderate to high yields (38-92%). Furthermore, a mechanistic proposal for the alkyne aza-Prins cyclization is described based on DFT calculations.

ChemInform Abstract: Nucleophilic Benzoylation Using Lithiated Methyl Mandelate as a Synthetic Equivalent of the Benzoyl Carbanion. Oxidative Decarbo…

2010

Abstract The synthesis of alkyl aryl ketones using lithiated methyl mandelate as a synthetic equivalent of the benzoyl carbanion is reported (Umpolung). The methodology involves alkylation of methyl mandelate, hydrolysis of the ester group and oxidative decarboxylation of the resulting α-hydroxyacids. The last step is carried out in a catalytic aerobic way using a Co(III) complex in the presence of pivalaldehyde under very mild and advantageous conditions. The procedure is also applied to methyl mandelates substituted on the aromatic ring.

Oxidative DNA Damage Profiles in Mammalian Cells

1997

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are formed inside cells not only under the influence of exogenous agents (visible light, ionizing radiation, and many oxidants such as peroxides or quinones), but also under normal (physiological) conditions as byproducts of oxygen metabolism and other cellular redox reactions (Pryor 1986; Halliwell and Gutteridge 1986; Sies 1986; Clayson et al. 1994). ROS such as hydroxyl radicals and singlet oxygen are a serious threat to the integrity of the cellular genome, since they efficiently react with DNA to generate many types of DNA modifications, at least some of which are pre- mutagenic (Breimer 1990; Halliwell and Aruoma 1991; Epe 1991; Feig et al. 1994). Reversible, room-temperature C—C bond activation of benzene by an isolable metal complex

2019

The activation of C-C bonds is of fundamental interest in the construction of complex molecules from petrochemical feedstocks. In the case of the archetypal aromatic hydrocarbon benzene, C-C cleavage is thermodynamically disfavored, and is brought about only by transient highly reactive species generated in situ. Here we show that the oxidative addition of the C-C bond in benzene by an isolated metal complex is not only possible, but occurs at room temperature and reversibly at a single aluminium center in [(NON)Al]- (where NON = 4,5-bis(2,6-diisopropylanilido)-2,7-di-tert-butyl-9,9-dimethylxanthene). Selectivity over C-H bond activation is achieved kinetically and allows for the generation…

Age-related changes in antioxidant status and oxidative damage to lipids and dna in mitochondria of rat liver

2005

To investigate the correlation between oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage with aging, antioxidant system, levels of oxidative DNA damage and as an index of the loss of plasma membrane integrity lipid peroxidation and membrane potential were studied. Results showed that the activities of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase significantly decreased during aging, however glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) increased in the aged mitochondria and glutathione (GSH) did not change during aging. No statistical difference was observed in the lipid peroxidation of mitochondria between young and old animals. The level of oxidative DNA damage (measured as 8oxo-dG) tended to in…

Carnitine transport in volume-overloaded rat hearts

1995

Carnitine concentration in tissue is generally related to mitochondrial volume-density and ability to oxidize fatty acids. The highest tissue carnitine has been detected in ventricular myocardium which, compared to other tissues, presents elevated rates of oxidative phosphorylation [1]. The ability of cardiac mitochondria to oxidize long chain fatty acids is also much higher when compared to skeletal muscle or liver sarcosomes (Table 1). Paradoxically enough, it has been known for many years [3–5] that the heart is missing γ-butyrobetaine hydroxylase [6, 7], the last enzyme of carnitine synthesizing pathway, and that in the myocardium of different species including man, the carnitine synthe…

Concentration-Dependent Antioxidant/Pro-Oxidant Activity of Ascorbic Acid in Chickens

2012

Darba mērķis bija pētīt dažādus oksidatīvā stresa biomarķierus cāļu organismā, kadmija akumulāciju orgānos, imūnsistēmas aktivitāti un nieru funkcijas izmaiņas askorbīnskābes ietekmē atkarībā no tās koncentrācijas barībā. Eksperimentos izmantojām vienu dienu vecus Lohmann Brown gailīšus, kurus sadalījām piecās analogās grupās. Cāļi saņēma komb…

Early reductive stress followed by a late onset oxidative stress in acute myocardial infarction

2018

Introduction The idea that the cells might suffer from reductive rather than oxidative stress and that such stress may be relevant in pathophysiology has gained momentum. Aim We aimed at studying markers of oxidative stress and damage as well as the expression of antioxidant enzymes in a swine model of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) followed by reperfusion. Results and Discussion We found an increase in the GSH to GSSG ratio, a decrease in protein glutathionylation and a decrease in p38 MAPK phosphorylation after 90 minutes of ischaemia in heart samples. It was accompanied by an increase in the expression of Thioredoxin (TrX) and Peroxiredoxin (PrX) and a decrease in the expression of Gl…

Mitochondrial Oxidative Stress in Diabetes

2014

Abstract Diabetes is a multifactorial disease associated with serious comorbidities. This condition has been related to oxidative stress and, as a consequence, to overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are known to be produced by different sources in diabetes. Excessive production of ROS can be harmful, making antioxidant defenses of vital importance. Dietary antioxidants, such as vitamin E or vitamin C, polyphenols and flavonoids have been used to modulate the oxidative stress created in diabetes, producing contradictory results in clinical trials, perhaps as a consequence of the targets selected and/or the design of the studies in question. This chapter considers the proce…
