Lavandula angustifolia Essential Oil and Linalool Counteract Social Aversion Induced by Social Defeat

2018

Many vegetable extracts, essential oils, and their main constituents are active on the Central Nervous System (CNS). In fact, they have been used as sedatives, hypnotics, or tranquilizers for their activity in treating CNS disorders. In this research, we studied the possible activities of Lavandula angustifolia (LA) essential oil and of its main constituent, linalool, as anti-stress compounds on anxiety and social interaction and their in vitro effects on proteins (pERK and PKA) involved in the transmission of the signal. An acute intraperitoneal injection of linalool (100 mg/kg) and of LA essential oil (200 mg/kg) reduced motor activity without any anxiolytic effect, but significantly incr…

Molecular mechanisms involved in the hormonal prevention of aging in the rat.

2008

Previous data from our group have provided support for the role of GH, melatonin and estrogens in the prevention of aging of several physiological parameters from bone, liver metabolism, vascular activity, the central nervous system (CNS), the immune system and the skin. In the present work data on the molecular mechanisms involved are presented. A total of 140 male and female rats have been submitted to different treatments over 10 weeks, between 22 and 24 months of age. Males have been treated with GH and melatonin. Females were divided in two groups: intact and castrated at 12 months of age. The first group was treated with GH and melatonin and the second with the two latter compounds an…

Chances in the Brain Cells, From Epigenetic To the Future

2014

Both oxidative damage and inflammation are elevated in brain from neurodegenerative patients [1], but their pathogenic significance remains unclear. Central nervous system has its own resident immune system, in which glial cells not only serve such as supportive and nutritive roles for neuron cells, also engage in several inflammatory processes that defend the central nervous system from pathogens and help it to recover from stres…

Oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane over NiO–CeO2 mixed oxides catalysts

2012

[EN] In this paper we present the synthesis, characterization and catalytic behaviour in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane of NiO-CeO2 mixed oxides. The addition of cerium oxide to NiO strongly modifies its catalytic performance, although the changes in the catalytic behaviour depend on the catalyst composition. The incorporation of low amounts of cerium oxide to NiO multiplies the productivity to ethylene in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane by a factor of ca. 7, which is the result of an increase in both catalytic activity and selectivity to ethylene. The enhanced activity has been related to the remarkable increase of the surface area of catalyst and the low crystal sizes of …

A single bout of endurance exercise induces αB-crystallin (CRYAB) modulation in cardiac muscle as it happens in oxidative skeletal muscle fibers

2018

CRYAB is a small Heat Shock Protein, expressed in various tissues such as skeletal and cardiac muscles, activated as phosphorylated CRYAB (pCRYAB) and involved in several pathophysiological processes. In mammals there are no reports to date on CRYAB activation following an acute endurance exercise, so the aim of my study was to explore in mouse cardiac tissue the pCRYAB levels as effect of this exercise at 0’, 15’ and 120’ of recovery. H2O2 - treated HL-1 cardiomyocytes have been utilized as in vitro model to identify the underlying molecular mechanism/s. Both in vivo and in vitro models showed no changes in CRYAB protein expression level but its phosphorylation state was significantly incr…

Influence of partial O 2 pressure on the adhesion, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells on β-tricalcium phos…

2018

Our purpose was to analyse the influence of O2 pressure on the adhesion, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells (DPSC) on 3-tricalcium phosphate (3-TCP) scaffold. DPSC isolated from extracted third molars were seeded on 3-TCP and cultured under 3% or 21% O2 pressure. Cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation over the biomaterial were evaluated at 7, 13, 18, and 23 days of culture. Cell adhesion was determined by light microscopy, proliferation by DNA quantification, and osteogenic differentiation by alkaline phosphatase activity analysis. All DPSC adhered to 3-TCP with both O2 conditions. Cell proliferation values were higher at 3% O2 in each t…

Oxidative dehydrogenation of isobutane over Co-MCM-41 catalysts

2004

Abstract Cobalt-containing mesoporous silicates with MCM-41-like structure, with Si/Co≥49, are active and selective catalysts for the oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) of isobutane. The formation of dehydrogenation products is analysed in terms of the nature of the cobalt species, tetrahedral Co(II), and heterogeneously initiated gas-phase reactions inside the mesopores.

Synthesis and X-ray structure of cationic β-diimine palladium complexes containing π-methallyl ligand

2005

High yield of cationic palladium β-diimine complexes [(CH 2 (MeCNAr) 2 )Pd(η 3 -C 4 H 7 )][Y] (Ar = C 6 H 5 , Y = PF 6 (8); 2-Me-C 6 H 4 , Y = PF 6 (9); 2,6-Me 2 -C 6 H 3 , Y = PF 6 (10); 2,6-iPr 2 -C 6 H 3 , Y = PF 6 (11), Y = B(3,5-(CF 3 ) 2 -C 6 H 3 ) 4 (12)) have been obtained by an oxidative addition of the methallyloxyphosphonium salts (5, 6) to a preformed complex Pd(dba) 2 (7) in the presence of the β-iminoamine ligands (1-4). These complexes are thermally stable and have been characterized by 'H and 1 3 C{ 1 H} NMR as well as IR spectroscopy. The structure of the cationic allyl palladium complex (12) has been solved by X-ray crystallography.

A Superoxovanadium(V) Complex Linking the Peroxide and Dioxygen Chemistry of Vanadium.

2001

A missing link: A superoxovanadium(V) complex is the first reaction intermediate in the oxidative conversion of a peroxovanadium(V) complex into a vanadyl(IV) complex and molecular oxygen. The superoxo species appears also to play an essential role in the formation of the peroxovanadium(V) complex from the vanadyl(IV) complex and molecular oxygen.
