A back to back method for the temperature rise test of prefabricated substations: A case study

2015

In this work a back to back method is presented which allows to develop heating tests of prefabricated secondary substations with a limited number of supplying equipment (an induction regulator and a capacitor bank). The proposed method makes use of the transformer tap changers to create a voltage difference on the medium voltage side. In this way, only an adjunctive low voltage supply is needed. With the proposed test system, the heating tests are developed on a 1000 kVA prefabricated substation. Thanks to the experimental tests, the class of enclosure of the substation and the operating temperature and resistance of the power transformers are determined, according to the recommendations o…

Variation in the stable isotope trophic position of the bluefish Pomatomus saltatrix (Linnaeus, 1766) from two Mediterranean sites: insights from a g…

2022

A direct consequence of sea warming is the shift in the distribution range of thermo-tolerant species that have the potential to determine novel inter-specific interactions, ultimately altering food web structures and ecosystem processes. In this study, we investigated the trophic position of the bluefish Pomatomus saltatrix (Linnaeus, 1766), a pelagic predator that has recently expanded its distribution in the Mediterranean basin and for which scant information is available on its functional role in recently-colonised areas. Nitrogen and carbon stable isotopes were determined in muscle tissues of bluefish specimens collected in south-east Italy in the Gulf of Taranto (NW Ionian Sea) and in…

Fast Graph Filters for Decentralized Subspace Projection

2020

A number of inference problems with sensor networks involve projecting a measured signal onto a given subspace. In existing decentralized approaches, sensors communicate with their local neighbors to obtain a sequence of iterates that asymptotically converges to the desired projection. In contrast, the present paper develops methods that produce these projections in a finite and approximately minimal number of iterations. Building upon tools from graph signal processing, the problem is cast as the design of a graph filter which, in turn, is reduced to the design of a suitable graph shift operator. Exploiting the eigenstructure of the projection and shift matrices leads to an objective whose…

Interactions between dietary n-3 fatty acids and genetic variants and risk of disease

2012

Nutritional genomics has undergone rapid development and the concept is now very popular with the general public. Therefore, there is increasing demand for knowledge on adapting dietary composition to the genome. Our aim has been to undertake a systematic review so as to find out the level of evidence existing on whether the effects of n-3 fatty acids on health can be modulated by genetic variation. A systematic literature search was conducted on studies that jointly analyse the effect of one or more genetic variants in candidate genes and n-3 fatty acids. Both observational and experimental studies were included. Results are classified in accordance with whether the study was undertaken on…

Effect of simvastatin on desaturase activities in liver from lean and obese zucker rats

1993

The effect of simvastatin, a hypocholesterolemic drug, on the biosynthesis of arachidonic acid was studied in obese and lean Zucker rats. After administration of 2 mg/kg body weight/d for 13 d, delta 6 and delta 5 desaturase activities were measured in liver microsomes at two substrate concentrations. In untreated rats, the delta 6 desaturation rate was similar in the obese and lean rats when measured at saturating substrate levels, whereas delta 5 desaturation was lower in the obese animals. Treatment with simvastatin did not change delta 6 desaturation in either phenotype but increased delta 5 desaturation in obese rats to reach the unchanged rate observed in lean animals. The changes wer…

Age-related changes in delta 6 and delta 5 desaturase activities in rat liver microsomes.

1993

Age-related changes in Δ6 desaturation of [1-14C]α-linolenic acid and [1-14C]linoleic acid and in Δ5 desaturation of [2-14C]dihomo-γ-linolenic acid were studied in liver microsomes from Wistar male rats at various ages ranging from 1.5 to 24 mon. Desaturase activities were expressed both as specific activity of liver microsomes and as the capacity of whole liver to desaturate by taking into account the total amount of liver microsomal protein. Δ6 Desaturation of α-linolenic acid increased from 1.5 to 3 mon and then decreased linearly up to 24 mon to reach the same desaturation capacity of liver measured at 1.5 mon. The capacity of liver to desaturate linoleic acid increased up to 6 mon and …

Effect of sodium loading (3% NaCl) on arachidonic acid biosynthesis in rat liver microsomes

1992

Sodium loading increases arachidonic acid (AA) metabolism by way of the prostaglandins(PGs) from series 2. Its effect on AA biosynthesis remains unknown. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the influence of sodium loading on the fatty acid composition of liver and liver microsomes, and the liver microsomal delta-6 and delta-5 desaturations of linoleic acid (LA) into AA. We found a decrease of LA and dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA) levels in liver total lipids of Wistar rats receiving hypernatriuretic drinking water (NaCl 3%) for 60 days. At the same time AA increased. DGLA decreased and AA increased in liver microsomal total lipids. 1(14) C-LA delta-6 desaturase and 2(14)…

Psychosocial stress, catecholamines, and essential fatty acid metabolism in rats.

1994

To examine the effects of psychosocial stress and the "stress hormone," epinephrine, on essential fatty acid metabolism in rats, two studies were conducted. In the first, the effects of four weeks of (i) social isolation and (ii) group housing (control) on liver microsomal delta 6 and delta 5 n-6 desaturase activity were studied in group-reared male normotensive (Wistar Kyoto) and spontaneously hypertensive (SHR) rats (n = 5/group). The second study examined the effects of acute ip epinephrine (0.0, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 mg/kg) 6 hr prior to and following an ig dose (4 g/kg) of safflower oil (rich in 18:2n-6, LA) on plasma and liver LA, 20:4n-6 (AA), and LA/AA ratios in adult essential fatty ac…
