A naive relevance feedback model for content-based image retrieval using multiple similarity measures

This paper presents a novel probabilistic framework to process multiple sample queries in content based image retrieval (CBIR). This framework is independent from the underlying distance or (dis)similarity measures which support the retrieval system, and only assumes mutual independence among their outcomes. The proposed framework gives rise to a relevance feedback mechanism in which positive and negative data are combined in order to optimally retrieve images according to the available information. The SVG (scalable vector graphics) standard allows representing complex graphical scenes by a collection of graphic vectorial-based primitives, offering several advantages with respect to classical raster images such as: scalability, resolution independence, etc. In this paper we present a full comparison between some advanced raster to SVG algorithms: SWaterG, SVGenie, SVGWave and some commercial tools. SWaterG works by a watershed decomposition coupled with some ad-hoc heuristics, SVGenie and SVGWave use a polygonalization based respectively on data dependent and wavelet triangulation. Neural embedding has been widely applied as an effective category of vectorization methods in real-world recommender systems. However, its exploration of users’ explicit feedback on items, to create good quality user and item vectors is still limited. Existing neural embedding methods only consider the items that are accessed by the users, but neglect the scenario when a user gives high or low rating to a particular item. In this paper, we propose Pref2Vec, a method to generate vector representations of pairwise item preferences, users and items, which can be directly utilized for machine learning tasks. Simulating Terahertz Field-Induced Ferroelectricity in Quantum Paraelectric SrTiO3

Recent experiments have demonstrated that light can induce a transition from the quantum paraelectric to the ferroelectric phase of SrTiO3. Here, we investigate this terahertz field-induced ferroelectric phase transition by solving the time-dependent lattice Schrödinger equation based on first-principles calculations. We find that ferroelectricity originates from a light-induced mixing between ground and first excited lattice states in the quantum paraelectric phase. In agreement with the experimental findings, our study shows that the nonoscillatory second harmonic generation signal can be evidence of ferroelectricity in SrTiO3. AC Switching of Relaxor PLZT Ceramics

The switching under application of bipolar ac field is studied by recording of the hysteresis loops in wide temperature and field range in PLZT x/65/35 ceramics. The qualitative difference of the shape of hysteresis loops above and below the freezing temperature is attributed to backswitching in relaxor phase due to the depolarization field produced by the bound charges located at the interphase boundaries. The application of the quasistatic approach to analysis of the experimental data allows us to obtain parameters of the distribution function of local coercive fields from the field dependence of the switching charge derivative on field.
Field dependence of spin and orbital moments of Fe in L10 FePt magnetic thin films

Abstract The field dependence of spin and orbital magnetic moments of Fe in L10 FePt magnetic thin films was investigated using X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). The spin and orbital moments were calculated using the sum rules; it was found that the spin and orbital moment of Fe in L10 FePt films are ∼2.5 and 0.2 μB, respectively. The relative XMCD asymmetry at Fe L3 peak on the dependence of applied field suggested that the majority magnetic moment of L10 FePt films resulted from Fe.

The nonlinear dielectric response of epitaxial heterostructures of relaxor ferroelectric PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3 thin films was experimentally studied using digital Fourier analysis. The amplitudes and the phase angles of the dielectric harmonics were determined as a function of temperature and the amplitude of the sinusoidal ac field. The response of the films was reconstructed assuming a linear contribution of the film-electrode interface capacitance. In the films at low amplitudes of ac field, a glass-like behavior was identified by a maximum in the third-order nonlinear dielectric permittivity around the freezing temperature, accompanied by a square field dependence of the amplitudes of the odd …
