Background The minimum age to start specific immunotherapy with inhalant allergens in children has not been clearly established, and position papers discourage its use in children younger than 5 years. Objective To assess the safety of high-dose sublingual-swallow immunotherapy (SLIT) in a group of children younger than 5 years. Methods Sixty-five children (51 boys and 14 girls; age range, 38-80 months; mean ± SD age, 60 ± 10 years; median age, 60 months) were included in this observational study. On the peptidergic hypothesis for non-adrenergic non-cholinergic innervation in the rat duodenum

1. The nature of the non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic (NANC) transmitter was studied in vitro in the rat duodenum, by use of an isometric-isovolumic preparation. 2. Electrical field stimulation (EFS) induced a tetrodotoxin (TTX)-sensitive fall both in luminal pressure and in isometric tension. 3. Neurotensin (NT) induced TTX-insensitive inhibitory responses similar to those induced by EFS. The role of presynaptic mechanisms such as residual Ca2+ and vesicle depletion in short-term facilitation and short-term depression is well established. AbstractThe reversible acetylcholine esterase inhibitor (−)-physostigmine (eserine) is the prototype of a new class of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) activating ligands: it induces cation fluxes into nAChR-rich membrane vesicles from Torpedo marmorala electric tissue even under conditions of antagonist blocked acetylcholine binding sites (Okonjo, Kuhlmann, Maclicke, Neuron, in press). MICROWAVE EFFECTS ON ACETYLCHOLINE-INDUCED CHANNELS IN CULTURED CHICK MYOTUBES

The behavior of cultured myotubes from chick embryos exposed to microwaves has been experimentally analyzed. Recordings of acetylcholine-induced currents have been obtained via patch-clamp techniques using both cell-attached (single-channel current recording) and whole-cell (total current recording) configurations. During the exposure to low-power microwaves the frequency of the ACh-activated single channel openings decreased, while the ACh-induced total current showed a faster falling phase.
