Investigation of phthalocyanine crystals exposed to NO2 ambient gas

Crystals of free base phthalocyanine (H2pc) and its unsubstituted metal derivatives Mpc (where M=Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb, and pc=C32H16N8 2−=phthalocyanine ligand) were examined after being exposed to NO2 ambient gas. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) supported by X-ray microprobe analysis (EDAX), UV–Vis and FTIR spectroscopy as well as X-ray powder diffractometry (XRD) were applied to study the crystals chemistry and surface morphology. The NO2 molecules were found to penetrate the crystal unit which led to the breakdown of the phthalocyanine macrocycle. Abstract The aim of this study was to assess the effect of land application of sewage sludge on phosphorus (P) losses during intense rainfall. Three rainfall simulations (40 mm h−1 of 30 min duration) were conducted on a field amended with sewage sludge. The overland flow water (OFW) was monitored and sampled every minute. The suspended solid, the dissolved and total phosphorus (respectively SS, TP and DP) concentrations were analysed. The forms of particulate bound P (PP) were investigated. Abstract Using non-empirical pseudopotentials, we have performed a theoretical study on the last step of the propylene partial oxidation mechanism, the acrolein desorption from the catalyst surface. To represent the catalyst we have used a simplified model of a catalyst active site. We have study the C 3 H 4 CuO complex, analysing the dissociation process of the oxygenated complex from a metallic centre. The results indicate that this complex dissociates into cis - and trans -acrolein and a metal site, in a process without energetic barrier.

Application specific sensor systems (formerly electronic noses) use static headspace for the volatile generation from condensed phase samples. This extraction method is very simple to implement, but suffers many drawbacks, i.e. in terms of efficiency or sensitivity to partitioning and is very time-consuming. Abstract A number of polypeptide antibiotics of the peptaibol class, i.e., trichotoxin, alamethicin, suzukacillin, hypelcin and paracelsin, have been separated into components and isolated by high-performance liquid chromatography on spherical, porous octadecylsilyl bonded phases. All peptaibols were found to reveal a strong microheterogeneity due to single or multiple amino acid exchange. Isomeric glycoconjugates have been distinguished using desorption negative-ion chemical ionization/tandem mass spectrometry (DNCI–MS/MS). The structure of the leaving terpene influences the orientation of consecutive decompositions during collisionally activated decomposition (CAD) of [M–H]− ions which pass through a glucose alkoxide intermediate ion. Specific and sensitive procedures have been developed which enabled the structure elucidation of the polypeptide antibiotics (peptaibols), paracelsin isolated from Trichoderma reesei, and of trichotoxin A-50 from Trichoderma viride, by fast atom bombardment and field desorption mass spectrometry. Selective extraction of small proteins from biological samples using a novel restricted access column with cation exchange properties

The determination of proteins utilising a polymer-based restricted access suppor material with ion exchange properties (IERAM) is outlined. Solid phase extraction coupled on-line with a mincrobore reversed phase HPLC system for the quantitation of small marker proteins is demonstrated. The cation-exchange restricted access packings were characterised with respect to their adsorption and desorption kinetics. The IERAM material was also investigated by capacity, selectivity, and biocompatibility determinations when applied to the quantification of small molecular weight proteins such as cytochrome C, Lysozyme, Ribonuclease A, Myoglobin, Insulin, human serum albumin, and a Tryptic inhibitor.
t-Curves for n-Hexane

The adsorption and desorption isotherms of n-hexane on powdered alumina and silica have been studied at 25°C over a wide range of relative pressures. Two t-curves for pore structure analysis are proposed, one for alumina (C = 12) and the second for silica (3 ≤ C ≤ 9). The statistical thickness t of the adsorbed n-hexane layer has been drawn as a function of the relative pressure assuming a maximal thickness of 0.55 nm and a mean thickness of 0.42 nm for the monolayer. The results are discussed in relation to previous published data.
