Stroke Cognitive Medical Assistant (StrokeCMA)
2018
Stroke is the number two killer after heart disease since it is responsible for almost 10% of all deaths worldwide. The main problem with a stroke is a significant delay in treatment that happened mainly due to inappropriate detection of stroke symptoms or inability of a person to perform further necessary actions, and might cause death, permanent disabilities, as well as more expensive treatment and rehabilitation. Nowadays assessment of a stroke is done by human, following widely adopted FAST approach of stroke assessment. Since a human factor become one of the causes of treatment delay, offered solution will try to minimize this factor. Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Computing, Machi…
Solid-state-biased coherent detection of ultra-broadband terahertz pulses
2017
Significant progress in nonlinear and ultrafast optics has recently opened new and exciting opportunities for terahertz (THz) science and technology, which require the development of reliable THz sources, detectors, and supporting devices. In this work, we demonstrate the first solid-state technique for the coherent detection of ultra-broadband THz pulses (0.1-10 THz), relying on the electric-field-induced second-harmonic generation in a thin layer of ultraviolet fused silica. The proposed CMOS-compatible devices, which can be realized with standard microfabrication techniques, allow us to perform ultra-broadband detection with a high dynamic range by employing probe laser powers and bias v…
First Chemosensor for Selective Detection and Quantification of L-4-Hydroxyproline in Collagen and Other Bio Samples.
2017
Amino pyridine-based rhodamine conjugate (APR) has been developed as a first chemosensor for selective detection and quantification of L-4-Hydroxyproline (Hyp). The “turn-on” fluorescence property of the chemosensor makes it unique for easy estimation of Hyp in collagen and biological samples. peerReviewed
Protective coloration of European vipers throughout the predation sequence
2020
Antipredator adaptations in the form of animal coloration are common and often multifunctional. European vipers (genus Vipera) have a characteristic dorsal zigzag pattern, which has been shown to serve as a warning signal to potential predators. At the same time, it has been suggested to decrease detection risk, and to cause a motion dazzle or flicker-fusion effect during movement. We tested these hypotheses by asking whether (1) the zigzag pattern decreases detection risk and (2) the detection is dependent on the base coloration (grey or brown) or the snake's posture (coiled, basking form or S-shaped, active form). Additionally, (3) we measured the fleeing speed of adders, Vipera berus, an…
One and Two Dimensional Convolutional Neural Networks for Seizure Detection Using EEG Signals
2021
Deep learning for the automated detection of epileptic seizures has received much attention during recent years. In this work, one dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) and two dimensional convolutional neural network (2D-CNN) are simultaneously used on electroencephalogram (EEG) data for seizure detection. Firstly, using sliding windows without overlap on raw EEG to obtain the definite one-dimension time EEG segments (1D-T), and continuous wavelet transform (CWT) for 1D-T signals to obtain the two-dimension time-frequency representations (2D-TF). Then, 1D-CNN and 2D-CNN model architectures are used on 1D-T and 2D-TF signals for automatic classification, respectively. Finally, t…
Impact flavor compounds in cooked rice cultivars from the Camargue area (France)
2010
International audience; Rice from two scented (Aychade, Fidji) and one nonscented (Ruille) cultivars from Camargue area (France) together with one Asian scented rice (Thai) were cooked and volatile compounds were extracted by dichloromethane/pentane (1;2, v/v) solvent mixture. 40 odorous compounds were noticed during GC-O analysis of the organic extracts, amongst which oct-1-en-3-one and 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline were altmost constantly perceived. Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) of perceived odours enabled to distinguish the groups of rice cultivars. 60 compounds were identified and quantified by GC-MS. New odour-active components of cooked rice were detected for the first time including oct…
Impact flavor compounds in cooked rice cultivars from Camargue area (France)
2008
International audience; Efforts have been undertaken for the last decades to promote the production of scented rice cultivars in Camargue, a traditional rice cultivation area in the south of France. Volatile compounds of cooked rice from two scented Camargue rice cultivars (Aychade and Fidji) were analysed and compared to that of a marketed Asian scented rice one (Thai)(1). Additionally volatile analysis from a cooked rice of a non-scented cultivar (Ruille) grown in Camargue was performed. (...)
Cell degradation detection based on an inter-cell approach
2017
Fault management is a crucial part of cellular network management systems. The status of the base stations is usually monitored by well-defined key performance indicators (KPIs). The approaches for cell degradation detection are based on either intra-cell or inter-cell analysis of the KPIs. In intra-cell analysis, KPI profiles are built based on their local history data whereas in inter-cell analysis, KPIs of one cell are compared with the corresponding KPIs of the other cells. In this work, we argue in favor of the inter-cell approach and apply a degradation detection method that is able to detect a sleeping cell that could be difficult to observe using traditional intra-cell methods. We d…
Status of Advanced Virgo
2017
The LIGO and the Virgo collaborations have recently announced the first detections of Gravitational Waves. Due to their weak amplitude, Gravitational Waves are expected to produce a very small effect on free-falling masses, which undergo a displacement of the order of 10-18 m for a Km-scale mutual distance. This discovery showed that interferometric detectors are suitable to reveal such a feeble effect, and therefore represent a new tool for astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology in the understanding of the Universe. To better reconstruct the position of the Gravitational Wave source and increase the signal-to-noise ratio of the events by means of multiple coincidence, a network of detectors…
Time-domain effective-one-body gravitational waveforms for coalescing compact binaries with nonprecessing spins, tides and self-spin effects
2018
We present TEOBResumS, a new effective-one-body (EOB) waveform model for nonprecessing (spin-aligned) and tidally interacting compact binaries.Spin-orbit and spin-spin effects are blended together by making use of the concept of centrifugal EOB radius. The point-mass sector through merger and ringdown is informed by numerical relativity (NR) simulations of binary black holes (BBH) computed with the SpEC and BAM codes. An improved, NR-based phenomenological description of the postmerger waveform is developed. The tidal sector of TEOBResumS describes the dynamics of neutron star binaries up to merger and incorporates a resummed attractive potential motivated by recent advances in the post-Newt…
