Molecularly imprinted polymer-based device for field collection of oral fluid samples for cocaine identification.

In this paper, a low-cost, rapid, easy, and potentially portable tool for the identification of cocaine and its semi-quantitative determination in oral fluid has been proposed. A field collection device has been designed, based on a cotton pad with an indicator and a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) sorbent, to selective retain cocaine from oral fluid components. After sample collection, cocaine is transferred by using phosphate buffer to the MIP and then eluted with 2-propanol. The obtained extract is analysed by ion mobility spectrometry (IMS), providing a cut-off value of 20 µg L-1 that identifies 100 % true-positive and 95 % true-negative samples. High-performance liquid chromatographic determination of Maillard compounds in store-brand and name-brand ultra-high-temperature-treated cows' milk.

Furosine and furfural products of the Maillard reaction are used as specific indicators of the effect of heating treatments on milk quality. Their contents were measured in representative samples of store- and name-brand ultra-high-temperature-treated milks using RP-HPLC with UV detection. Furosine contents ranged from 40.32 to 50.67 and from 65.48 to 310.58 mg/100 g protein in name- and store-brand milks, respectively. Of the furfurals, only hydroxymethylfurfural was detected. The free hydroxymethylfurfural contents of store-brand milks ranged from 0.22 to 1.70 mg/100 g protein. Because of its richness in aroma compounds and its pleasant organoleptic properties, caramel is widely used in the food industry. Multiple food research studies have shown that the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs) are frequently found in processed cocoa products and chocolate. In a present study a method based on dopant-assisted atmospheric pressure photoionisation (DA-APPI) combined with a liquid chromatography/high-resolution mass spectrometer (HPLC-HRMS) for high-sensitivity analysis of four EU marker PAHs in dark chocolate samples was developed and fully validated according to the performance criteria set in EU guidelines. Extraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from cookies: a comparative study of ultrasound and microwave-assisted procedures.

The chromatographic determination of 15 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in cookies has been improved in order to obtain a fast method with a low limit of detection through the combination of microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), oil saponification and solid-phase extraction clean-up before the injection of purified extracts in a C18 201TP52 (5 microm, 250 x 2.1 mm) column. Using acetonitrile-water as mobile phase, with a 50% to 95% w/w acetonitrile gradient for a fixed flow of 0.250 ml min(-1), 15 PAHs were separated in 45 min. Liquid chromatography/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization-mass spectrometric analysis of benzoylurea insecticides in citrus fruits.

A liquid chromatography (LC) method for the quantitative determination of three benzoylurea insecticide residues (diflubenzuron, flufenoxuron and hexaflumuron) in citrus fruits is described. Residues were successfully separated on a C18 column by methanol/water gradient elution. Detection was by negative-ion, selected-ion monitoring atmospheric pressure chemical ionization-mass spectrometry (APCI-MS); the main ions were [M - H]-, and the secondary fragment ions were [M - H - HF]-. Useful confirmatory information can thus be obtained at low extraction voltages from losses of HF.
